Hi all, I'm Charles-Antoine Couret and with some French contributors, we want to revive an older French Fedora magazine : Muffin (http://mag.fedora-fr.org/wiki/Accueil). However the older format, PDF generated by LaTeX, was too complex and the time between each version was too long.
The official Fedora Magazine seemed to have success and we are interested in the creation of Fedora Magazine in other language (French for us). Obviously, the goal is not to translate Fedora Magazine but to have similar platform/infrastructure to write and publish articles in French independently.
We didn't see any suggestion to do that in the past, we hope it will be possible. I don't know if it is easy to realize this project. I'm available if you need more information or if you have some questions. Maybe it is not the correct Mailing list to suggest that?

Localizing the content on the Fedora Magazine is currently a goal that we are aiming towards -- while this is slightly different to reviving the older French Magazine you are talking about, could we interest you in contributing to the Fedora Magazine (both with content, and translations?)
As for our platform, we use Wordpress with a theme specific for the Fedora Magazine.

We are looking at the possibility of exporting content into Zanata, translate, the export into wordpress. We tried exporting html format of the article into Zanata and it works fine. The issue now is 1) Can wordpress support localisation of article? 2) Need to automate the process, its all manual work at the moment. (copy content, save as html, export to Zanata, pull translation from Zanata and import into wordpress.)

yeah, i think if we can find one of these plugins that allows us to interact with the Posts / Translations via the default wordpress XMLRPC interface, that is the one we should focus on.
That way the less hacking we have to do on the plugin/PHP the better, as we are a little light on willing PHP developers.

I use qtranslate-x for my wordpress and it's quite powerful; however, I would like to see an external translation app since doing it directly on the wordpress may lead to style changes and other format issues. Either way, I'm up to the challenge and would he happy to contribute with a spanish translation.

the one thing that i couldnt figure out is where the translataions are actually stored, and if there is any way to get them out with XMLRPC. I can get at the sources of the posts, but can't figure out how to get to the translations.

This point is important for us, notably to write about local events or other specific topics. In this case, I think it's not a problem for us and we could contribute in the future to localize (partially) English contents too. :)

A local community could translate only English articles or it could publish its own articles (with or without possibility to translate in English/other language)? This project is defined? I think this question is very important to implement a good design between different versions of magazine. And many contributors should be impacted by this choice. I think each language edition should have independence concerning the possibility to translate contents or to create original articles without publishing in English before.

A significant factor is whether the community blog or site is publishing under the community name, like fedora-fr.org for instance. If it is, then I see no reason the site can't choose and publish its own original content. The site should not look exactly like the Fedora Magazine in this case, though, because it would be confusing to the viewer. Having a different banner would be enough to differentiate them, I think. We're not trying to encourage multiple versions of the Fedora Magazine that look exactly like one another. In doing this, we might accidentally confuse readers as to which site is run as part of the Fedora Project itself.
On the other hand, English is the lingua franca of the project, and therefore the Magazine itself should stick to English posts for original content. Does this help answer the question at all?
