As always, minutes and IRC transcript available on the wiki at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/Meetings/20131007
Next meeting is scheduled for 2013-10-14 at 1500 UTC in #fedora-meeting.
If you have topics you think we should bring up at the meeting, please
add them to the Wiki page at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/Meetings/20131014 . Thanks!
TOPIC: Previous meeting follow-up
=======================================================================
* "tflink or someone competent to talk to releng about where to
file bugs in the cloud .ks and whether it needs to be
packaged in the distro" - dgilmore will be making sure cloud
kickstarts get added to spin-kickstarts package, cloud
kickstart bugs should be reported against spin-kickstarts
package going forward
* "adamw to talk to anaconda devs and get a build done for beta
tc1 with live keyboard bug fixed" - there was already a build
ready that went into TC1. anaconda team was happy with that
build for TC1
* "spstarr to work on iSCSI install testing" - spstarr not
present at the meeting, did not look like testing had been
done for TC1
* "adamw to look into nightly fail" - was already resolved soon
after the meeting
TOPIC: Fedora 20 Beta status
=======================================================================
* Quite a few required tests had not yet been run for TC1, we
needed to get to those for TC1/TC2
* TC1 ARM images were DOA, dgilmore and pwhalen were dealing
with it
* We decided it would be a good idea to build TC2 soon
TOPIC: Test Day status and help wanted
=======================================================================
* 2013-10-08 would be virtualization test day[1], and Thursday
2013-10-10 would be GNOME test day[2]
* adamw and handsome-pirate volunteered to help out with
graphics test week
* Volunteers were still welcome to help run future Test Days
TOPIC: Possible elongated schedule for Fedora 21
=======================================================================
* Per ticket #1178[3], FESCo wanted solid justifications for
possibly providing extra development time for F21
* viking-ice suggested pushing to have anaconda development
cycle adjusted to stabilize earlier in the cycle (would
probably need a longer cycle to achieve)
* tflink wanted to work on test automation and blocker bug app
* handsome-pirate wanted to work on validation test result
tracker app
* adamw suggested that all those with solid ideas draw up a
detailed and realistic proposal for getting somewhere
concrete within an elongated release cycle and add them to
the FESCo ticket, perhaps after list discussion
TOPIC: Open floor
=======================================================================
* viking-ice suggested a plan to assign 'QA team' members to
specific packages or package groups for testing and triage
tasks; further discussion needed
Action items
=======================================================================
* adamw to co-ordinate with anaconda team to get a new anaconda
build done and roll TC2
* tflink and handsome_pirate to write up detailed proposals for
projects to be worked on in a possible longer f21 schedule
and post / link to them in the trac ticket

19:00:08 <abadger1999> hola
19:00:15 <adimania> Hi
19:00:31 <kushalkhandelwal> Hey
19:00:41 <croberts> hi
19:00:51 <dgilmore> hola, I will be in and out, I have a parent teacher meeting in 30 mins
19:00:58 * mirek is here
19:01:26 * relrod here
19:01:55 * robyduck in
19:02:05 <nirik> welcome everyone.
19:02:13 <nirik> #topic New folks introductions and Apprentice tasks
19:02:21 <nirik> any new folks want to introduce themselves?
19:02:27 <nirik> or apprentices with questions or comments?
19:02:57 <croberts> only thing i had i asked you in the noc channel
19:02:57 * ausmarton is here
19:03:08 <croberts> was worried about getting the email turned in time :)
19:03:19 <croberts> on*
19:03:44 <nirik> no worries. Yeah, for any apprentices that got my october status email, do get a reply to me before about the 14th. ;)
19:03:59 <mirek> I have question - if I want to learn how to deploy some app as ordinary application, where should I start? I there some docs? Or what app is good example? Are those setup stored in ansible.git as well?
19:04:00 <nirik> Thats when I will prune out inactive folks (after I get back)
19:04:19 <mirek> I tried to look on how is setup fpaste, but could not find it
19:04:28 <nirik> mirek: good question. ;) I don't know that we have much in the way of generic docs...
19:04:35 <nirik> much of our setup is still in puppet.
19:04:48 <croberts> nirik: i do have a question but i will for open floor
19:04:54 <nirik> a good one to look at in ansible might be nuancier ?
19:05:02 <nirik> we just deployed that one, so it's mostly in ansible.
19:05:08 <croberts> its about the magazine
19:05:25 <nirik> however, since our proxies are still in puppet, the proxy config for it is still in puppet as well...
19:05:33 <nirik> croberts: ok.
19:06:07 <nirik> mirek: does that help any?
19:06:15 <mirek> ok, I will check nuancier, thx
19:06:45 <nirik> mirek: the puppet repo is also on lockbox... 'git clone /git/puppet'
19:07:06 <nirik> cool.
19:07:29 <nirik> any other intros or general questions? if not, moving on...
19:07:43 <nirik> #topic Applications status / discussion
19:07:51 <nirik> any application news or plans or discussion?
19:07:56 <mirek> status of copr - still no disk space, still no hosting. the contacts are unresponsive (although I'm asking every day). I would like to go way: deploy -fe and -be as ordinary applicaton, leave just builders in cloud. and try to merge disk spaces from cloud nodes and export it to backend. If this setup will be problematic (due network setup) we can keep backup in cloud as well, which should be little bit easier.
19:08:21 <nirik> #info https://apps.fedoraproject.org/nuancier/ was deployed
19:08:59 <nirik> mirek: I dropped the ball there, was going to ping my cloud contact, but forgot. I can do so after the meeting.
19:11:08 * nirik gets a call. just a sec.
19:12:20 <nirik> ok, any other application side news?
19:12:37 <nirik> abadger1999: were you going to send out a fun email about python-fedora and 2fa?
19:13:02 <abadger1999> nirik: yeah - I was -- I've got it 3/4 written but keep getting dragged back into scls.
19:13:13 <abadger1999> I'll try to just finish that off tomorrow and send it.
19:13:15 <nirik> yeah, nasty votex. ;(
19:13:18 <nirik> no worries.
19:13:33 * abadger1999 hopes to talk briefly with you and dgilmore about scls later today.
19:13:48 <smooge> kerosene and matches
19:13:59 <abadger1999> and then think about other stuff over the weekend :-)
19:14:36 <nirik> :)
19:14:44 <nirik> ok, if no other apps news moving on...
19:15:01 <nirik> Oh, this might fall under apps I guess...
19:15:17 <smooge> octoberfest?
19:15:31 <nirik> a while back I got pinged by bugzilla folks to mention the change they were doing around components to fedora lists, etc (which I did)
19:15:57 <nirik> I mentioned to them in passing some of our wants for bz... they are open to discussion and asked me to file bugs about then.
19:15:58 <nirik> them.
19:16:06 <nirik> so, I plan on doing that when I get back most likely.
19:16:19 <nirik> Hopefully we can talk them into doing the stuff we want. :)
19:16:37 <nirik> #topic Sysadmin status / discussion
19:16:43 <nirik> ok, on the sysadmin side...
19:16:53 <nirik> we just did a mass reboot and update cycle, went ok.
19:17:02 <nirik> I also migrated our lookaside cache to netapp space.
19:17:08 <nirik> and we moved some virtual instances around.
19:17:30 <nirik> that reminds me, I need to file a easyfix monitoring ticket... we need to check parents on all our phx2 guests.
19:17:45 * adimania notes
19:18:44 <nirik> oh, I also disabled funcd. We are no longer using it. ;)
19:19:20 <nirik> smooge: any other upcoming or recent items you can think of?
19:19:22 * smooge plays the bagpipes
19:19:41 <smooge> 1) virthost15 was stood up. virthost01/02 were cleaned
19:20:00 <smooge> 2) Fedora PPC hardware ran into a major problem
19:20:02 <nirik> well, 01/03...
19:20:35 <smooge> 3) Time to audit what hardware we have and work out which ones we want to replace next year
19:20:58 <nirik> yeah.
19:21:07 <nirik> I def want to decomission virthost01/03
19:21:10 * handsome_pirate waves
19:21:22 * handsome_pirate wonders how he could get old hw
19:21:40 <smooge> I was thinking of using them for testing hardware for ansible low level stuff for a bit
19:22:07 <nirik> handsome_pirate: I think they usually go to recycle back to ibm or spare parts... we don't really have a way to give them to people that I know of. ;(
19:22:12 <smooge> handsome_pirate, old hardware goes to IT to be marked off by beancounters and then recycle
19:22:32 <smooge> what nirik typed faster
19:23:28 <nirik> we have a motherboard replacement in arm04 later today too. Hopefully that will go well.
19:23:36 <nirik> nothing else too exciting I can think of.
19:23:41 <smooge> 4) ... stuff ...
19:23:56 <smooge> 5) take all of stuff and write budgets!
19:24:21 <nirik> we really need to get our new bladecenter working. ;) (we have it on line and can get to mgmt on it now, just a matter of getting it working for the blades)
19:25:03 <nirik> #topic Upcoming Tasks/Items
19:25:03 <nirik> https://apps.fedoraproject.org/calendar/list/infrastructure/
19:25:11 * oddshocks tiptoes in after staring at #fedora-apps for the past 25 minutes
19:25:13 <nirik> any upcoming items folks would like to schedule or note?
19:25:20 <nirik> welcome oddshocks. ;)
19:25:32 <oddshocks> :)
19:25:51 <smooge> not for me
19:26:14 <nirik> I'll note that I am out starting tomorrow and back monday the 14th. ;) Please don't expect too much in the way of replies from me while I am gone. ;)
19:26:31 <nirik> #topic Open Floor
19:26:36 <nirik> croberts: you had something?
19:26:39 <smooge> please send things you would to nirik to me if possible
19:27:20 <croberts> nirik: yes I was wondering since have been having issues with the Fedora magazine on openshift i was wondering if we could maybe get it hosted in house
19:27:28 <croberts> we*
19:27:40 <nirik> croberts: well, there's a history there. ;)
19:27:49 <nirik> we hosted wordpress a while back.
19:27:49 <oddshocks> nirik: I just got a reply to the fi-apprentice list from someone else, and it makes me realize that I did not get a prompt email for this month, and can't remember if I got one last month either, is that OK?
19:28:02 <nirik> Almost no one used it, and it was a gigiantic pain to keep updated.
19:28:35 <nirik> also, other places did it fine, so it seemed like something outside our core area.
19:28:44 <nirik> oddshocks: huh, you should have gotten one.
19:28:48 <croberts> nirik: ah I could see where that would be an issue
19:28:57 <oddshocks> I can just use the one I have as a template and send ya my answers
19:29:04 <nirik> croberts: we could open the discussion again on that, but I think we would be reluctant. ;(
19:29:17 <nirik> croberts: another option would be to look at wordpress.com?
19:29:33 <nirik> oddshocks: I can resend to you if you like also?
19:29:33 <croberts> nirik: no worries I just wanted to see what your oppinion on it was.
19:29:47 <oddshocks> nirik: if you don't I'll just use this one :) whatever's clever
19:30:17 <nirik> I also wonder if we could get a beefier openshift for it... we might know someone over there to talk to... ;)
19:30:31 <nirik> oddshocks: either way works fine for me.
19:31:10 <oddshocks> then no need to send one :)
19:31:26 <nirik> k
19:31:40 <nirik> croberts: do you know the status of some of those tickets for magazine?
19:32:17 <nirik> https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/ticket/4020 and https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/ticket/3985 in particular. Are those still needing things? or done?
19:32:22 <croberts> I believe I got the ssl turned off, I have tested it with multiple computers and browsers even windows and dont see an SSL anymore
19:32:54 <croberts> 3985 wordpress keeps going to a 502 error
19:33:05 <croberts> it has been needing to be rebooted 1-2 times a week
19:33:23 <croberts> 4020 I will have to ask Mitzie about that one
19:33:28 <croberts> I will get an update and update the ticket
19:33:32 <nirik> odd. we never had much trouble that I know of with the flock one. ;(
19:33:42 <croberts> it also lags quite a bit
19:34:00 <croberts> that is why I wanted to bring it up
19:34:01 <nirik> that would be great. If there's things we need to do from the infra side, we should try and get them done. If not, close and work out where we do need to fix. ;)
19:34:20 <croberts> I think 4020 can be closed
19:34:26 <nirik> well, it's still going thru our proxies.
19:34:30 <croberts> hmm
19:34:32 <nirik> as far as I can see.
19:34:38 <croberts> how would we go about getting that changed
19:35:19 <nirik> I could do it... or smooge can (I think he set it up )
19:35:38 <croberts> that would be awesome, we could get 4020 closed
19:35:38 <nirik> I guess it would just be switching dns...
19:35:56 <nirik> and cleaning up stuff on proxies if we wanted to, or just leaving it for now.
19:36:07 <croberts> i know there is a new ticket created today as well because diskpace is used up on the magazine
19:36:27 <nirik> yeah, jzb said he was going to look into it .
19:37:06 <croberts> I think if we change the proxies I think that would satisfy 4020
19:37:17 <nirik> ok.
19:37:33 <croberts> i just was not sure who to ask
19:37:39 <nirik> any other items for open floor? questions, comments, ideas?
19:37:53 <nirik> croberts: yeah, wasn't sure what was needed there or I would have done it sooner. ;)
19:38:12 <croberts> i will work on getting some of my other tickets closed this week as well :)
19:38:52 <nirik> ok, sounds good.
19:38:59 * nirik will close out the meeting in a min if nothing else.
19:39:18 <smooge> nothing from me
19:39:19 <croberts> enjoy your vacation :)
19:40:15 <nirik> will try. :)
19:40:27 <oddshocks> cool :)
19:40:31 <nirik> Thanks for coming everyone. Do continue in #fedora-admin, #fedora-apps and #fedora-noc
19:40:33 <nirik> #endmeeting
