Hi all and sorry for the off-topic question. I'm trying to move over to using yum instead of apt at Planet CCRMA and I'm having a hard time with kernels... Is there a way in yum to install a particular version of a package? In particular, a particular version of a kernel? (not necessarily the latest). -- Fernando A bit more, if by chance a yum expert lurks here... I have been using in the past meta packages to make sure users install the proper core components that Planet CCRMA needs, that is, kernel, kernel alsa drivers, lib, etc, etc. So I have an empty package with just dependencies. It does not look like things are working the way I expect (or as they work with apt), I'm getting unresolved dependencies and I could swear the packages have them... I have attached what happens when I try to install it, it finally complains with: Error: Unable to satisfy dependencies Error: Package kernel-module-alsa-2.6.16-1.2080.13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma needs kernel-i686 = 2.6.16-1.2080.13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma, this is not available. Error: Package planetccrma-core needs kernel-i686 = 2.6.16-1.2080.13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma, this is not available. Yet, this is what the packages offer: # rpm -q --provides -p kernel-2.6.16-1.2080.13.rrt.rhfc5.ccrma.i686.rpm kernel = 2.6.16 kernel-drm = 4.3.0 kernel-i686 = 2.6.16-1.2080.13.rrt.rhfc5.ccrma kernel = 2.6.16-1.2080.13.rrt.rhfc5.ccrma # rpm -q --provides -p kernel-2.6.16-1.2080.13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma.i686.rpm kernel = 2.6.16 kernel-drm = 4.3.0 kernel-i686 = 2.6.16-1.2080.13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma kernel = 2.6.16-1.2080.13.rdt.rhfc5.ccrma It looks like the dependency is there! So, what gives?

If you're on this list, it's because we've had personal correspondence that has led me to believe you'd be interested in being on this list. If I'm wrong, please feel free to unsubscribe yourself. :) Let me first explain the general purpose of this list -- perhaps misnamed as fedora-music-list. I've had on-and-off discussions with Fernando Lopez-Lezcano for several months now, in which we've sorta kinda thought about forging a stronger relationship between Fedora and Planet CCRMA. This list is the first attempt to bring a lot of people together around this effort. We're got a lot to talk about, but I'm hoping that we can solve a few problems together. Like: 1. Can we pull some of the Planet CCRMA packages into Extras, and lighten Fernando's load by sharing the maintenance? 2. Can we figure out the optimal way to maintain a custom kernel that has the necessary realtime patches, and make it as easy as possible for people to install that kernel? 3. Can we use the new Magic in anaconda to make Planet CCRMA just another flavor of a standard Fedora install? And other such questions. In the short term, there's a number of Redhatters on this little list, and I'd like to scam whatever hardware we can to set up a Planet CCRMA demo system somewhere on the Centennial campus -- so people within the walls can see what's going on and get excited about it. So. Anyone care to introduce themselves? I'll start: I'm Greg DeKoenigsberg. I've been with Red Hat for 5 years, the last 18 months as the Community Development Manager. Basically, that means I talk to cool people in the community and find projects that fit well with our current resources and interests. intro and questions

Hello, All: Pleased to see activity on the list. I work with a small group on Open Studios, a nonprofit relying on both Fedora and CCRMA to provide multimedia capability for users. Our target audience lies mainly with independent musicians, inner-city neighborhoods, nonprofits, etc., that are looking for multimedia capability, but generally lack money to purchase proprietary products. Greg mentions that one topic of high interest is discussing how Fedora and CCRMA can work together to create multimedia capability in a way that benefits everyone involved. My first question to the list, and Fernando, is, what applications are on the short list (if there is one at this point) for moving to Fedora Extras? Also, what is the present recommendation for users that have installed Fedora and CCRMA to maintain both up-to-date?
