Low Latency vs. Real Time Kernel
by Brian Monroe
I've been spending a lot of time on the #opensourcemusicians channel
talking to Ubuntu Studio users about their kernel and latency times they're
getting. Seems like most of them are using g a stock kernel with the
preemptive option enabled and they are getting great latency results
(2ms)while utilizing the @audio group on their user. I ended up compiling
my own low latency kernel and I haven't had any issues with it yet. If this
is what we are missing for the spin I'd be happy to maintain packaging for
the kernel. I know ccrma has been behind a few kernel releases.
I saw the instructions for adding the real time patch for a tick less
kernel and from what I can tell it wouldn't be hard to get that rolling as
well.
I'm not entirely sure what ccrma does differently with their kernels
compared to other Linux users, and I'm still a bit of a noob so I could be
off base with this, but I would reason that we should be able to just
utilize the same settings to archive similar performance enhancements.
I thought I read that ccrma uses a unique scheduler, but if we could get a
2ms latency time without it, the point may be moot.

jam art
by Ian Malone
Regarding art for the spin, I can donate some guitar related pictures
if anyone wants to take them, though there's probably much better
stuff to be found on wikimedia commons.

Primary software list is "complete"
by Jørn Loamx
I have now completed a draft of the primary software list, the list of
software that is going to go into the spin[1]. If your favourite piece
of software is not on the list, please shout out so we can see if it's
something we should add. Likewise, if there is something on the list
that makes you go "Hang on a sec!", please say so too, so we can discuss
if we really want it in there.
Any input is welcome, both negative and positive. Use some time to think
too, I won't put the list into the spin kickstart file until the 5th of
July, so we have until then to edit the list as freely as we want.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Fwd: plug software for fender mustang
by Ian Malone
Hi, is there any interest in the Audio SIG for taking this package on? Thanks,
Ian

Well, assuming that nobody else takes it, and also assuming that you're
not already a packager, you can head to
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Join_the_package_collection_maintainers
for the huge, massive list of steps involved.

That's OK;
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:SourceURL#Troublesome_URLs tells
you what to do.

AZR-3 [JACK]
by Martin Tarenskeen
Hi,
I think this also a nice one to be included in Fedora and/or the music
spin:
http://ll-plugins.nongnu.org/azr3/
It's a drawbar organ for Jack, based on a VST plugin release under the
GPL.
It compiles without problems and sounds fine on my system (Fedora 16).
Anyone else tried this one yet?

Summary of the meeting 25.06
by Jørn Loamx
The minutes are now up[1]
The main decisions that were made are the following:
1. Move the submission date to the 5th of July to give us some extra
time (the calendar has also been updated to reflect this)
2. The Primary software list will be completed this week. Keep the
discussion going on what we want and don't want in there. I will have
the draft ready before the weekend and share it too the list, and then
we decide on it next week.
3. The desktop environment will be KDE, unless someone comes with a
compelling argument to use something else.
As always, if there are any questions, don't hesitate to drop me an email

adding MuseScore to primary list?
by Jørn Loamx
Good monday morning everyone.
I'm a huge fan of MuseScore and would like to have this as part of the
primary software for Fedora Jam. What are peoples thoughts on MuseScore?
Is it only me that would prefer to have it to having
lilypond/frescobaldi. Let the discussion begin :)

Pulseaudio 2.0
by Brendan Jones
Hi all,
pulseaudio is not the one man team it was of the past. Upstream seems to
be cracking on at a grand pace. While they are debating the release date
of pulseaudio 3.0, one of the Fedora maintainers has been kind enough to
put together a pulseaudio 2.0 repo [1] for those of us who shudder to
think of using rawhide on a daily basis...
Please let the list know your experiences. What we learn here is of
supreme importance wrt. the audio spin.
For the really game, I have also released
laditools,ladish,gladish,synthv1,samplev1 and Add64 whilst they wait in
the review queue [2]. Be warned that a certain GCC 4.7 abnormality is
creating havoc with jackdbus at the moment causing the ladi* tools to
die on startup. An updated jack is imminent, but in the meantime you can
roll your own with -O0 (rather than -O2 from %optflags)
