Help with StudioControls – Studio Set Up Utility
by bruce
Hi, I’ve just installed fedora jam on my spare laptop. I’ve been using
windows for all my music, and I want to see what linux has to offer. I went
with Jam because I wouldn’t know what software to install or how to
configure it, so this seems like the place to start.
But I’m not getting anywhere using it, and the wiki doesn’t seem to have
much info.
Here is my problem: when I plug in my audio interface (I’m using GuitarPort)
I get unprocessed raw sound from my guitar in my headphones right away,
before I even start anything. (Normally I don’t hear anything until the
signal is routed through the amplifier software, but I’ve never used it in
linux before, maybe that is expected?)
I went into StudioControls -> Audio Setup -> Jack Master Setting, and I see
the following:
Jack Master Device (no USB): lists my sound card and my guitar port.
USB device that should be Master: No USB Master.
The thing is, GuitarPort *is* a USB device. No matter what I do, all I get
is raw guitar output. I feel a bit like all I’m doing is closing my eyes
and poking at it with a stick. Are there some instructions on how to set
this up?
Thanks,
bruce

Trouble getting Jack to work with "extra Device"
by Keith Smith
I'm having trouble getting audio output to my internal ACS1220A
motherboard audio (connected to external speakers) when Jack is using
an external USB audio interface for input.
!. with Jack not running, pulseaudio works fine and sound (music file)
comes out of the ACS1220A
2. with Jack configured to use the USB audio interface as source and
sink, and pulseaudio bridge, it works fine. Sounds is heard from the
USB audio interface headphone.
However, If I add the AC1220A PCH 1,0 digital output device to JACK
(via studio controls "Extra Devices") it shows up in Carla, and I can
connect it up so that all output (pulse_out) goes to it, but there's no
sound.
I check the ALSA mixer and pulse mixer controls and don't see any
problems.
I tried setting up Studio controls a few different ways, but nothing
seem to work.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of problem? seems like
it should work.
Thanks,
Keith

Multiple hardware sources and sinks + first impressions
by Keith Smith
Hello:
Just installed Fedora Jam 33 and everything seems to have gone very
well. Only two issues:
1.) I use Nextcloud running on a RaspberryPi server to share my sheet
music between computers. I tried to setup the KDE NextCloud account
app but it wouldn't let me sign-in to the raspberrypi server because I
use a self-signed certificate. On my laptop running Fedora Workstation
I was able to install a nextcloud-client which allows me to accept the
validation error. The Fedora Jam KDE discovery software app doesn't
seem to provide it, but I was able to install it from a konsole using
DNF and it is now working great.
2.) The KDE system setting app sometime will not display. I eitherhave
to reboot, or kill the thread if its running to get it to come up
again. this seem to happen a lot.
Multiple hardware source and sinks:
My system has:
a.) a USB Logitech 920 camera (video and stereo audio)
b.) the internal ASUS motherboard sound system connect to external
speakers
c.) a USB connected MOTU M4 audio interface with 4 audio inputs, 4
audio outputs, midi-in and midi-out
Use cases:
1.) When recording music videos I'd like to use my M4 audio input and
logitech camera video
2.) When taking music lessons I may want to use the camera for both
video and audio and audio output from the internal audio system
3.) when creating songs with Audour I want to use the M4 as audio
input, playback and output to my external monitor as well as midi
input/output
4.) when composing with Frescobaldi I want to play the generated midi
to the internal audio system via QSynth
So far I haven't found an easy way to switch my Fedora Jam studio set-
up between these different use cases. I'll admit that I've only spent
a day at it and will investigate further.
In the meantime, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
So far I'm very happy with this spin. Great Job!

KDE vs Gnome for Fedora Jam
by Keith Smith
Hello Eric;
I'm a long time Linux user (Mint and Fedora Gnome workstation). I
recently setup Mint with JACK and Audour 6 to record my music using my
new MOTU M4, but experienced latency/buffer under run problems due to
my old PC.
So I'm building a new DAW that's super fast and I want to switch to
Fedora Jam. However, my experience is with Gnome and I'm not keen on
learning a new desktop environment + apps
Question: Why was KDE chosen for this spin and are there any
disadvantages to using a Gnome workstation spin instead and adding the
Fedora Jam packages?
Thanks, Keith (Bayan player)

Fedora Workstation 33 and Fedora Jam 33 "audio-production" group
by Mag. Sterrer
I would like to use Fedora 33 Workstation for audio-production and I would like to know the following:
1. Is it possible to install the group "audio-production" under Fedora 33 Worksation and does it run without any quirks?
2. How well would it works under Wayland (interface, etc.)
Thank you.
