People,
I have been on this list for a while but have only just started messing around with installing stuff (mostly Fedora spins / labs / Sway etc inc Jam) on my old Zenbook - I can't boot on LiveUSBs anymore on this machine so I am having to do it via grub2 and isos on the HD . . anyway, it looks like Jam has confirmed that the speakers are also dodgy on this machine (earphones work fine).
I played around with a number of the apps (some didn't start up) - which look really nice / interesting - thanks people!
This list is very quiet - are there people around who answer fairly newbie questions? - I am interested in stuff from the Physics of Music to producing guitar music on the computer to creating my own guitar music notation . .
Regards,
Phil.

It would be nice if you could compile a list of things you tried and didn't work, so that we can report issues to the corresponding maintainers.

I'm no guitarist myself, but happy to help about others topics.

I ditched Fedora altogether when even Ardour turned out to no longer run on Jam. If you'd be using anything on a music distribution it is the DAW. Raised bugzilla, nothing really happened.
Switched to Arch and I'm hooked to the concept of a rolling release (no more upgrades) and to the wealth of packages provided by the AUR user repository.

This is an issue with some config files, or how ardour parses them. There's a workaround, see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1837342
But yes, it's a shame this hasn't been acted on yet. I don't know whether this is an upstream bug or a packaging bug, but it's quite annoying.

Actually Ardour was one of the things that worked for me! - the only thing I have used previously has been Audacity for fairly simple things - but of course the Ardour test was quick and trivial . .

Interesting - in the early years I did a lot of distro hopping but then settled on RH and later Fedora when it came about - so it pretty much suits what I mostly need need to do now . . but I have heard good things about Arch . .

OK, will do - I only tested on the Live version - but I am thinking I will use this old Zenbook with LiveOS so I can test out things more conveniently - I will do the list after I work out how to LiveOS going with a SD Card.

Thanks! - I have been a Wannabe for many decades anyway . .
