NetworkManager DNS bug
by Michael Cronenworth
Hi all,
I updated my XO 1.75 to 12.1.0. Everything seemed to work great.
I ran "yum update" on it and after rebooting my /etc/resolv.conf is no
longer updated when the network connection is established.
/var/log/messages:
Sep 19 23:58:40 xo-74-39-52 NetworkManager[363]: <warn> could not commit
DNS changes: (0) Could not replace /etc/resolv.conf: Device or resource busy
I can add my DNS settings manually, but after a reboot they disappear
again... so NM is lying to me. :)
Is this a reported bug already? My Google-fu didn't turn up anything.
Thanks,
Michael

How to change this....
by Álvaro Castillo
Dear OLPC Fedora list,
I wanna know.... how to change display manager? So, I have installed XFCE,
So, on Sugar environment only I can change to GNOME or back to Sugar. How
change this?
Note, I find How to install XFCE on OLPC and maintain it here URL.
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/XFCE#GDM_.28gnome_display_manager.29
Problem is systemd is not using initab... need update these section.
Other thing is...
How I can assign root password for ever. For example. I do sudo passwd
root. Set password OK. However, I run su - and run to # without request any
password. So... is dangerous...
and how to setup user to ask what user I am interested to login. And not
only login olpc user. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Some bugs on OLPC 12.1.0 XO-1.75
by Álvaro Castillo
Hi!
As I do not know if bugs I have to register on *bugzilla.redhat.com *or
here. Anyway, I report here.
- Cannot shutdown or reboot
Yup, If I execute sudo reboot, or sudo shutdown XO will be "shutdown"...
unmounting filesystems...et but after say "unmounting" Show this message.
"Reached target shutdown"
So, I need push power button and do force shutdown.
- Cannot get Internet connection on USB modem or Wireless connection
Yeah, you can connect to wireless or USB modem connection. Ok, but you need
run $ sudo dhclient eth0 (Wireless card) or $ sudo dhclient usb0 (usb
modem) each time you want get Internet connection. Always need run $ sudo
dhclient * command each you are connected a new wireless or USB modem
connection.
- A message when I startup or shutdown olpc
Yup, I always see this message when I am going to shutdown the olpc:
[FAILED] Failed to start show Plymouth_Reboot Screen.
See 'systemctl status plymouth-reboot.service' for details.
Starting Delay shutdown while showing plymouth shutdown splash....
- Cheese cannot starts
I have installed cheese webcam software to take photos, recording
videos...et However, I execute cheese command to run it. I get
"Segmentation fault" :(
I hope thath you can help me, and help others.
Greetings!

Making an XO more like a regular laptop?
by Bruno Wolff III
I want to use my XO more like a normal laptop. So far I have switched to
using gnome instead of sugar.
Is there documentation on how to give a change for an authenticated login
before one gets logged in as olpc? I have some ideas on how to do this and
can probably figure it out, but was hoping the process was documented
somewhere.
Is there a reasonable way to have the XO use encrypted root or at least
/home? (Worst case I could use an encrypted USB thumb drive for stuff
I wanted protected.)
