FluidSynth is a real-time software synthesizer based on the SoundFont 2
specifications. It is a "software synthesizer". FluidSynth can read MIDI events
from the MIDI input device and render them to the audio device. It features
real-time effect modulation using SoundFont 2.01 modulators, and a built-in
command line shell. It can also play MIDI files (note: FluidSynth was previously
called IIWU Synth).

Version 1.1.4 brings:
Several bug fixes to the engine, notably quite a few which could cause
FluidSynth to sound bad in some cases. API additions, that make it possible
to load MIDI files from memory to inspect/modify MIDI events as they are
being played from a MIDI file to change channels between melodic and drum mode
and to silence all notes in one command.

The lockfile module exports a FileLock class which provides a simple API for
locking files. Unlike the Windows msvcrt.locking function, the Unix
fcntl.flock, fcntl.lockf and the deprecated posixfile module, the API is
identical across both Unix (including Linux and Mac) and Windows platforms. The
lock mechanism relies on the atomic nature of the link (on Unix) and mkdir (on
Windows) system calls.
