Summary: Review Request: mod_cluster - httpd modules and
Tomcat/WildFly java libraries
Product: Fedora
Version: rawhide
Component: Package Review
Severity: medium
Priority: medium
Assignee: nobody(a)fedoraproject.org
Reporter: mbabacek(a)redhat.com
QA Contact: extras-qa(a)fedoraproject.org
CC: package-review(a)lists.fedoraproject.org
Spec URL:
https://github.com/Karm/mod_cluster-fedora-packages/blob/master/mod_cluster…
SRPM URL: https://karm.fedorapeople.org/mod_cluster/
Description: Mod_cluster is an httpd-based load balancer. Like mod_jk and
mod_proxy, mod_cluster uses a communication channel to forward requests from
httpd to one of a set of application server nodes. Unlike mod_jk and mod_proxy,
mod_cluster leverages an additional connection between the application server
nodes and httpd. The application server nodes use this connection to transmit
server-side load balance factors and lifecycle events back to httpd via a
custom set of HTTP methods, affectionately called the Mod-Cluster Management
Protocol (MCMP). This additional feedback channel allows mod_cluster to offer a
level of intelligence and granularity not found in other load balancing
solutions.

Old package exists, but it needs a major refactoring. The current Fedora 22 as
as me as Fedora 23 and rawhide contains more than 2 years old code with unfixed
CVE, performance and severe functional issues.
With the ever climbing usage of Docker, people are downloading these obsolete
mod_cluster 1.2.6 packages and it damages the reputation of our state of the
art load balancing project.
I would like to ask for a formal review on this new specfile that comprises
these packages:
mod_cluster - Apache HTTP Server modules
mod_cluster-java - java libraries common to both Tomcat7, Tomcat8 and
WildFly
mod_cluster-java-catalina - java libraries common to both Tomcat7 and Tomcat8
mod_cluster-java-tomcat7 - java libraries for Tomcat 7
mod_cluster-java-tomcat8 - java libraries for Tomcat 8
Thank you for your time.

SPEC file for that package was taken by the project author from a sister
project NetworkManager-pptp which is already packaged in Fedora. I have done
minor modifications and removed all rpmlint warnings.
I'm already a maintainer of a few Fedora packages.
