# remove .la files
find $RPM_BUILD_ROOT -name *.la | xargs rm -rf
# remove .a files
find $RPM_BUILD_ROOT -name *.a | xargs rm -rf

I preffer this way.

find $RPM_BUILD_ROOT -name *.la -exec rm {} ;
find $RPM_BUILD_ROOT -name *.a -exec rm {} ;
