Okay, that build didn't finish but it got past the build phase and into the
install.  So it does look like this is some interaction with our CFLAGS.  It's
too bad the build takes so long, otherwise it would be easier to debug this via
trial and error.  I'm going to try to get a build to finish and then we can try
to debug which CFLAG option is causing the problems.
