I noticed that as well. Could it be the -ggdb flag that it adds to the CFLAGS that causes the problems?
I haven't checked details yet, but this and other CFLAGS-weirdnesses (Some piece use -g3, some other use -gstab<something>, sorry I just deleted the log) are likely candidates.
Another candidate is rpmbuild/redhat-rpm-config itself. It doesn't properly distinguish between native and foreign object files. Working around this had forced me to apply pretty nasty tricks in my cross-compiler rpms.
