My take is this. If upstream uses tags, we should use them. It's easier to follow. Commit

is for when there is no tag, and when you use commit, you need to use the full 40 character hash.

I've updated the draft to clarify that. I've also included a link within the draft regarding Git Tags.

There is a discussion within that link regarding re-tagging; which I think explains

the situation. Re-using the same tag in Git just isn't normal procedure - and to say it is

frowned upon is a gross understatement. They call it "insane". I can't imagine any

responsible upstream doing it.
