Not won't, *can't*.
If you want to remove the symlink, you need a compatibility symlink
in the other way.
Hehe, but you're thinking in terms of today's rpm. Discussing stuff
with Jeff at the FOSDEM this week-end, he already has a way of dealing
with this well known limitation, which (from what I've understood) would
basically be a "pre everything" approach. A similar "post everything"
approach and a little magic could also nicely solve the icon caches,
mime types, menus etc. performance problems.
Which is why I didn't say "never", but "anytime soon" ;-)
