Hi list,
I have fedora installed on my powerbook G4. I get the message
"vt: argh, driver_data is null" which hangs the machine every time I
try to do a "shutdown -h now" command.
Any ideas as to what the problem might be .
Thanks

Hi list,
Any one know how to make the Caps_Lock key act as the Control key?
I have the latest Fedora from rawhide kernel 2.6.9-1.667.
I have tried the usual stuff:
- edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf file with line
Option "XkbOptions" "ctrl:swapcaps"
*****DID NOT WORK*****
- once X is running and I log I tried using xmodmap with something
like this.
xmodmap -e "remove Lock = Caps_Lock" -e "keysym Caps_Lock = Control_L" -e "add Control = Control_L"
*****DID NOT WORK*****
- I also tried editing the /lib/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwerty/us.map.gz file
changed the line
>>keycode 58 = Caps_Lock
>>keycode 58 = Control
*****DID NOT WORK*****
- last I tried using gnome's keyboard map tool.
*****DID NOT WORK*****
I am out of ideas just can't get that damn Caps_Lock key to
behave as a control key. Any clues.
Thanks
Rene
OK, thanks for the info ...
I'll try with the newer rawhide version and I'll keep you informed ...

This kernel oops is apparently fixed in rawhide now.

Hi ,
The iSeries box on which i want to install Fedora is a iSeries 810 (Power
4). I've already installed a Redhat 7.1 and a Suse Entreprise 8.0 on this
machine (just for tests) in a LPAR.
How can i launch the Fedora Setup on such box ?
I remember that for the Redhat 7.1, i needed to
- copy the vmlinux file on the IFS (Integrated File System) of the iSeries
- configure the LPAR to boot from a STMF (Stream file) located in the root
of the iSeries file system
- Vary on (power on) the LPAR on the iSeries
- Kernel boots and launch the setup program (from that point, i configured
the LAN and choose to install from an NFS server)
So, do you think i just need for the Fedora to :
- copy the files located here :
http://ftp.belnet.be/linux/fedora/linux/core/development/ppc/ppc/iSeries
on my iSeries
- launch the LPAR like i did in the past for the Redhat 7.1 ?
Other question :
Is the Fedora PPC an official part of the Fedora project (i had a look on
the Fedora main site, but they're talking about Intel/X86-64 only).
And if it the case, can we hope that a real Fedora on iSeries/pSeries (i
meant, other than the Rawhide version) will be released ?
Thanks .

I'll try and dig out some docs for you - I've not tried on iSeries but have
installed rawhide on pSeries.
Could you give a bit more detail on what box you'd be installing?

Wade, and I have seen some corruption in inode 7. I.e. after a bad
reboot, you get inode 7 corruption errors, and fixing it with the backup
superblock doesn't seem to work, per se
While this isn't a problem when my laptop stays on for 15 days or so, it
does tend to require a reboot, and blam!
Wade has been able to reproduce it on two clean installs, and I after
much frustration the other day, decided to format the entire disk (well,
I wanted to reduce OS X's space and get it bumped to 10.3.5 :P), and did
a fully clean install
Passed -Fr to shutdown, ran fsck, and it worked fine (on a fully 100%
clean disk)
Otherwise, what's the cause for the inode 7 corruption and what's the
easy fix? Surely not logging into root console, running fsck and saying
yes to fixing things (or even fsck -y). Even fsck -b, and specifying the
backup superblock tends to give ultimate weirdness (and a non-booting
box)

So, finally upgraded the laptop from the .541 (2.6.8) to the latest:
Linux hermione.soho.bytebot.net 2.6.9-1.649 #1 Fri Oct 29 00:32:56 EDT
2004 ppc ppc ppc GNU/Linux
Now, pmud from dwmw2's tree (built on FC2) installs fine, and the
following is what I get in /var/log/messages (and no, my laptop doesn't
sleep now):
Nov 1 11:36:08 hermione pmud[11535]: pmud [treshold = 420, margin = 15]
startedNov 1 11:36:08 hermione pmud[11535]: PMU version 12: iBook/G3
Pismo/G4 TitaniumNov 1 11:36:08 hermione pmud[11535]: daemon stopped
(parent exiting [note PID])Nov 1 11:36:08 hermione pmud: PMU version
12: iBook/G3 Pismo/G4 Titanium
Nov 1 11:36:08 hermione pmud: pmud startup succeeded
Nov 1 11:36:08 hermione pmud[11536]: running /etc/power/pwrctl maximum
ac
Nov 1 11:36:08 hermione kernel: hda: Set PIO timing for mode 0, reg:
0x1090032b
So, I rebuilt it based on the src.rpm, and that fails too:
Nov 1 11:39:28 hermione pmud[11639]: pmud [treshold = 420, margin = 15]
startedNov 1 11:39:28 hermione pmud[11639]: fcntl(F_SETFL)
Nov 1 11:39:28 hermione pmud[11639]: daemon stopped (fcntl(F_SETFL))
Nov 1 11:39:28 hermione pmud: pmud startup failed
This is me testing on an iBook 2.2 g3, with definite sleep support
previously (well, on-and-off, but it worked). Anyone else played with
it?
Thanks
