Mac on Linux help
by Joseph Mesterhazy
Hello list,
I've spent the last two days beating over MOL trying to get it to work
with FC3 and the 767 DWMW2 kernel. The application builds fine, but the
kernel section fails miserably. I saw a message to this list on the
same subject in the archives, but it was not of any help.
I found some patches for YellowDog users here:
http://www.mail-archive.com/yellowdog-
general(a)lists.terrasoftsolutions.com/msg00133.html and those helped get
past some errors, but now the 'make modules' still fails when compiling
ethertap.c and tun.c.
I am wondering if anyone has had success building MOL with FC3/PPC?

Hang with ppc boot iso
by Ken Moffat
Hi,
I'm not subscribed, so please CC me if appropriate.
I finally got around to putting linux on my new iBook this week, and
last night I thought I'd try loading FC3. Put the boot CD in, selected
linux, the kernel started to load, and then the screen cleared as if it
was changing to the framebuffer, but the box was dead. Screen backlight
was on, not responding to keys (including the on/off button). Left it
on battery in the hope it would run down and then I'd be able to eject
the CD when I booted, but after about 15 minutes I realised the
backlight was off and it responded to the on/off button.
From looking at /proc/cpuinfo (I put ubuntu on earlier) it's using a
7447A clocked variously at 533 or 1066MHz, pvr 8003 0101, machine
PowerBook6,5
Apologies if this is a known problem, but I couldn't see any links to
point me to the correct bugzilla.

FC3 Installation on G5 comments
by Prarit Bhargava
Hi everyone,
I am not a subscriber so if you have any questions/comments about the
behaviour I'm seeing, please feel free to send them to prarit(a)sgi.com.
I've gone through Colin's steps to install FC3 on my G5 and came across
these issues.
FYI, I did an "Everything" install.
1. yabootconfig does not seem to translate the "--initrd" option into
the /etc/yaboot.conf file.
I specified
yabootconfig -r /dev/hda9 -b /dev/hda12 --kernel boot/vmlinuz-*
--initrd boot/initrd-*
but my /etc/yaboot.conf file did not list an "initrd=/boot/initrd-*"
option.
Workaround: edit /etc/yaboot.conf and issue ybin command.
2. "Everything" install installs both the ppc64 kernel and the ppc32
kernel.
Workaround: delete ppc32 kernels.
3. I had to turn off kudzu.
Kudzu was doing something for about 10 mins before I finally gave up and
CTRL-ALT-DEL'd the machine. The system did not hang or oops.... I
haven't bothered to investigate any further.
Workaround: enter "Interactive" setup, skip Kudzu. At system prompt,
chkconfig kudzu off. Reboot.
4. I had to turn off cups
Ditto.
Workaround: enter "Interactive" setup, skip cups. At system prompt,
chkconfig cups off. Reboot.
In the end, I have a great FC3 system :)
