Mac Mini Installation Issues

I also had the problem with the partition error on initial install;

"The partition data region doesn´t occupy the entire partition"

"Attempt to read 16-18 outside of partition on /dev/sda"


I was able to get around it by firing up fdisk and writing a new 
partition table before doing the installation.

After that, the installation went smoothly.  However, on reboot, I only 
get the flashing Mac "looking for a boot disk" graphic.

Boot with cmd-option-o-f; printenv.

boot-device /pci@f4000000/ata-6@d/disk@0:,\\:tbxi hd:,\\:tbxi

When you say fdisk do you mean fdisk or pdisk?

If you used fdisk you'll have created msdos style partition tables.

Can you boot of CD to rescue mode

boot cd:,\\:tbxi
linux rescue

and give the output of parted /dev/hda print

Sure, but then I let Fedora write it's own.  Or actually, I used Disk 
Druid to write the table below.

You've created msdos style partitions so we don't hit mac-parts hence
the \\:tbxi magic won't be used - you have a few options - boot off what
is there:

setenv boot-device hd:1,\ofboot.b

Or boot installer to rescue mode and create a blank mac partition table

parted /dev/hda mklabel mac

then reinstall.

You could also convert the partition table from msdos->mac - but the
other suggestions are probably easier.

This worked (parted /dev/hda mklabel, then specify "mac" for the 
label)!  So, is there a recommended procedure for dealing with the 
original partition problem, or does it just require using the command 
line utilities for the moment?

It's already fixed in rawhide - it was a parted bug with assuming 
Apple_Free would always be labeled Extra which is untrue for OS X
diskutil created partitions or multiple Apple_Free.

Or make a Mac partition table which precisely matches the layout of the
existing DOS partition table?
