Hi All
Does Fedora PPC have support for PowerPC modems at the moment?
When i attempt to use the Internet Wizard or wvdial I get errors '--> Cannot open /dev/ttyS0: Input/output error' (see wvdial log below)
also Kudzu doesnt pick up any modems (See kudzu log below)
In the old days :) when i was using gentoo ppc to get modems working you had to compile 'macserial' into the kernel and modpobe macserial to get it working if you had any issues, has macserial been depreciated as I cant find it when i attempt to recompile the fedora or cent kernel?
ive tried http://www.yellowdoglinux.com/support/solutions/ydl_4.0/dialup.shtml http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Modem-HOWTO.html and more but have had no luck
http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=52183
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get modems working?
Bit of a spastic question but do PowerMacs use HCF modems, if so is just using the Linuxant drivers the easiest solution?
Below is some more detailed logs and info about my system
Thanks

Maybe
When i attempt to use the Internet Wizard or wvdial I get errors '--> Cannot open /dev/ttyS0: Input/output error' (see wvdial log below)
also Kudzu doesnt pick up any modems (See kudzu log below)
Its the internal modme that you're referring to, right?
class: OTHER bus: PCI detached: 0 driver: unknown desc: "Digital Equipment Corporation DECchip 21154" vendorId: 1011 deviceId: 0026 subVendorId: 0000 subDeviceId: 0000 pciType: 1 pcidom: 1 pcibus: 10 pcidev: d pcifn: 0
What Mac does this come from?
Bit of a spastic question but do PowerMacs use HCF modems, if so is just using the Linuxant drivers the easiest solution?
Doubtful, but give the linuxant free tool for checking a try

Does Fedora PPC have support for PowerPC modems at the moment?
Maybe
When i attempt to use the Internet Wizard or wvdial I get errors '--> Cannot open /dev/ttyS0: Input/output error' (see wvdial log below)

That's not the modem; it's an Ethernet chip.
The modem is probably one of the HCF ones, and hence isn't supported except perhaps by Conexant.
Is there even a sound-only GPL driver for it yet? T'would be cute to use it with Asterisk.

Yes, noticed after posting; I have that same shite in a PC box that dates back to a Pentium Pro

HCF/HSF, but I doubt it. Worth a try, I bought their drivers so my iBook could get on the Internet. Erps, wait, I think I did for my Thinkpad too

I should think so. I should be going to grab a mac mini soon, and I'd wanna take a closer look at all this stuff. After certain "work" is done with it, I'd aim to make an "asterisk in a box" thing ;-)
Now, where do I get all that spare free time from

They should invent some kind of Java-like bytecode so you can run binary-only drivers without having to have a different version for each machine.
Oh, wait, that sound like ACPI...
