Cython build failing on longintrepr.h not found

Hi Pythonians, I have a favor to ask. I'm trying to package scikit-misc as a dependency for plotnine (for neuro-sig). The build fails with: fatal error: longintrepr.h: No such file or directory I'm aware of the fact that the file has been moved in Python 3.11, but was under the impression this change was implemented in Cython 0.29.5. I opened an issue upstream, but I would appreciate a second pair of eyes on the build. The file that tries to include the header file is generated, so nothing I could work around with using a patch (with my limited knowledge that is). pathfix.py will be removed from Python 3.12

Hello. Since Python 2.0 (1994), Python provided a useful tool pathfix.py that we use in Python RPM macros for fixing shebangs of Python modules and some RPM packages use it as well directly in their specfiles for similar purposes. The script will no longer be part of CPython source code and python3-devel RPM package. Because we think it's useful, we have decided to create a new upstream project for it (https://github.com/fedora-python/pathfix) on Github and include it in the python3-rpm-macros package. The change means the script will move from /usr/bin/pathfix.py to /usr/lib/rpm/redhat/pathfix.py. For users of %py_shebang_fix and %py3_shebang_fix no action is needed. The macros will soon use the new location of the tool. If you use the tool directly in your specfile a change is needed before Python 3.12 become the main one in Fedora 38. We have a list of affected packages and will open PRs for them soon. Help needed triaging build failures without distutils

Hey Pythonistas. The Python standard library distutils module will be removed from Python 3.12+ https://peps.python.org/pep-0632/ As preparatory work, we build all python packages in a Copr repository with Python 3.11 sans distutils: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/python/python-without-distutils/ I've rebuilt all the failed builds again and also in a control-group copr: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/python/python-with-distutils/ 250 packages that failed to build without distuils but succeeded with distutils need to be examined and categorized into various different groups: - package uses distutils only if sys.version_info < (3, 12) -- this is OK but still fails here - package uses distutils unconditionally and the package needs to be fixed - package uses another package that uses distutils unconditionally and the dependency needs to be fixed I suspect most of the packages will fail to build with Python 3.12 (planned for Fedora 39, change proposal TBD). The python3-setutpools package provides a distutils module [^1], so sometimes "simply" adding BuildRequires: python3-setuptools might workaround the problem. However, upstream involvement is recommended. Exposing Shell environment variables from %pytest via %python3_test_envvars?

Hello Pythonistas, while working on a change that requires adding a new Shell environment variable to both %pytest and %tox, I figured out we might benefit from defining such variables at one place. Maxwell suggested that this place should be exposed to packagers, so they could use it with other test runners. ImportError: attempted relative import with no known parent package

Hi, I'm getting the ImportError from subject specifically when building python-plotnine for f36 (Python 3.10.7). The same package builds fine for f37 and rawhide (Python 3.11.0). The module the test is trying to import from is present in tests/, so I'm a bit stupefied as to why this fails. I also tried with putting an empty __init__.py in tests/. But this fails with an OSError in conftest.py. Hello Pythonistats, packagers, A handful of Fedora Python packages uses pytest-xdist to run tests in parallel like this: %pytest -n auto -n auto means pytest will spawn a number of workers processes equal to the number of available CPUs. In the spirit of other packaging guidelines, I believe we should use this instead: %pytest -n %{_smp_build_ncpus} This means the same thing in most of the ceases, but will limit the number of workers depending on other constraints in the spec or in the environment. Should I do this in a mass change? Not so many packages use pytest -n auto in the spec: $ rg -l -- '(-n|--numprocesses)(\s*|=)auto(\s|$)' ansible-bender.spec azure-cli.spec ocrmypdf.spec python-cartopy.spec python-GridDataFormats.spec python-hypothesis.spec python-matplotlib.spec python-mplcairo.spec python-rpmautospec.spec python-sqlalchemy.spec python-tox.spec python-xarray.spec python-zstandard.spec pythran.spec scipy.spec (Other packages have that in tox.ini or pytest config file, but I am not aiming at changing that here.) You can see the full list of added packages in this PR: https://pagure.io/fedora-project-config/pull-request/227 I intend to have this PR open for a week and merge the changes after *October 24th*. If you object to having your package enlisted in the Zuul CI, please leave a comment in the PR and I'll remove it. (For completeness' sake) If you'd like to have your package added to the Zuul CI and it's not listed, you can either leave a comment in the PR or just go ahead and open another one. Happy packaging! What if we excluded 32bit ARM from Python 3.12

Hello Pythonistas, we are probably going to package python3.12 soon for all Fedora releases. Unfortunately, building Python for 32bit ARM has been very tedious lately, as the Koji build keeps restarting and the build takes 24+ hours to finish. Considering 32bit ARM is gone from Fedora 37+, I was considering the ExcludeArch it from the python3.12 package even on older Fedoras, to make the builds easier.
