Update status on isitifedoraruby

[Achilleas Pipinellis]

Hey there, I thought some of you might want to check how the refactoring
of isitfedoraruby goes. Here's a short changelog for the previous month.


- Remove unused code (sorry Mo...)
  - Remove HistoricalGems model
  - Remove Build controller/view
  - Remove methods related to local spec/gem downloading
  - Remove empty helpers
  - Cleaned routes, removed unused ones
- Conform to ruby/rails style guide, ~500 errors/warnings fixed
- Maintainer field for packages is now using the fas_name
- Automatically fetch versions of Fedora by querying the pkgdb api
  - Addded rake task to fetch rawhide version and store it in a file locally
- Show koji builds from supported Fedora versions only
- Bugs
  - Query bugs via api using pkgwat
  - Show only open Fedora bugs, exclude EPEL ones
    - Drop `is_open` from bugs table
- Hover over links to see full titles when truncated eg. bugs (to be pushed)
- Rename builds table to koji_builds for clarity
- Added tests
  - Unit tests for models (not yet finished, integration tests to be added)
- Added Github services
  - travis-ci
  - hound-ci
  - coveralls
  - gemnasium
- Development tools
  - shoulda-matchers
  - rspec
  - capybara
  - rack-mini-profiler
  - rubocop
  - factory_girl
  - annotate
  - railsroady

I will include this changelog in the app and update it whenever I make a
change worth noted. Also it would be fun if there were versions, so I
added a v0.9.0 to the changelog :p By the end of the summer I hope to
get on releasing 1.0 :)

A testing instance can be found at [0].
Please report any bugs/feature requests at github [1].

Plans to do from now on:

- Deploy on opeshift
- Refactor rake tasks (see [2])
- Use api calls wherever possible
- Work on additional features
  - dependency checker
  - gemfile tool
  - packaging progress of a gem
- UI refactor: I kinda hate how it looks like a common bootstrap theme
:p I have a lot of ideas on how to make it appealing, but I know little
of design/css/js so I'll take my time. I'm seriously considering
switching to foundation[3] though which is more straightforward than
bootstrap.

  - using rake tasks

There are probably many things I miss now, I'll keep you posted. Thanks

it or are you already notified at your email, that something went wrong 
and you are already working on fix? ;)

Well there is not setup a notification system (yet :p), but I can see
the logs. Now, the particular bug you bumped into, is actually one that
I have in mind fixing. See

Actually if you sort them by desc and then go to the last page the issue
doesn't occur. Will have to investigate more but my guess is because the
downloads column is nil.

Also, you might see that some rpms are missing information (bugs/builds,
etc). That's because the import mechanism might encounter some network
issues so the specific packages are skipped. That's on the todo list in
refining the rake tasks. A big enhancement would be to base on fedmsg
and update on the fly anytime a change is spotted. I have added it as an
issue [0], though I can't give any hopes this will be implemented any
time soon :/

Some other thing I missed to report. Now with the new guidelines and the
no need of Requires, packages that have adopted this new behavior show
that have no dependencies. This info is now scrapped from the cgit spec
file, and unfortunately there is no other way (at least for now) to know
what the deps are. I have opened an issue at pkgwat [1] but this is
blocked due to a bug maybe of the server api [2].

Another option would be to extract the information from rubygems.org,
would that suffice?

No, I don't think this is good idea. There might be some additional 
requires or some requires filtered out for some reasons. Actually, this 
would be also interesting to compare our requirement vs the upstream 
requirements ;)

No worries, features are an asset, code is a liability. The more you can 
do w/ less code the better.

The current / previous version is deployed there, Nico wired it up to 
auto-deploy when we pushed to github stable, am sure we can dig up the 
config if you'd like.

Nothing much done previous week due to busy schedule, BUT the last two
days I worked on getting fedoraruby a little prettier :)

No more lengthy pages with 4 tables, no more huge fonts. I used the same
font as pkgdb and tried to be as blueish close to Fedora's colors as
possible. Hope you like it. It was my first time to play with bootstrap
and it was fun :)

There are more to be done, so if you have a request or you see something
you don't like, do shout out!

I will work tomorrow on setting this to openshift and gradually update
the official url at http://www.isitfedoraruby.com/

a few things that crossed my mind:

- why is "FedoraRuby" sign at the top left?
- why isn't the menu with the search box aligned to either side?
- the Fedora ruby integration with the overview section on home page isn't aligned as
the rest of the site
- the mobile version of the main menu is very buggy (Firefox 30 on f20)

I welcome the work on the design and Fedora colours, but there are still a lot to improve.
I understand its a a work in progress so I am just mentioning the most obvious things that
I run into and I will check it later.

Btw. I meant a few inconsistencies, The site still doesn't feel like one project e.g.
there are pages that take different approach on how the headlines look like...

I guess you are referring to the bubble chart and the dependencies
graph? Those are the single pages I didn't lay a hand on.

I also see some places using h2 and other similar h4. I'll take a look,

Also:

1, the title of the page is isitFedoraRuby instead of IsItFedoraRuby
2, at many places "RPM" is still "Rpm"
3, I can't get used to the new gem overview[0] page, it just doesn't feel like the
rest of the site (both the subheader with gem name and boxing the rest of the content).

Haven't deployed yet, I'm missing some tests so I haven't yet merged to
master. You can see the latest major changes (mostly internal) in the PR
here [0]. By Monday my dev instance [1] will be updated.
