gem list -l does not list my rubygem

rubygem-state_machine installed does not list as a gem:

gem list -l does not include state-machine and i dont see why, help please.

Try $ gem list -l state_machine

rubygem-state_machine-0.9.4-2.fc13.noarch

(sorry if too nob) how gem knows what are the installed gems?
