Fedora 14 installation unable to format

Folks,
     I'm trying to install Fedora 14 onto a System Z/9 and receive an error during the phase where the installation process is trying to format the drives.   The process initially sees the drives as available, but fails to format.  See attachment for debug output.

Looks like hardware issues to me.  The kernel is not happy.  This block 
is recurring through your log file.

Thanks for the quick response.   Do you have any suggestions on what I should be checking about the hardware?  Clearly the installation sees the disks.  What about them should I verify?   Attached is how they are listing within z/VM:

Clark,

You may want to try using the LXFMT utility under z/VM  - located on the
Link Below to perform the actual Linux format  from z/VM itself just to see
if you get past this error on the format.  This utility can also be used to
partition the disk

Hi Clark,

could it be that the ECKD DASDs contain some existing broken Linux Disk 
Layout leading to the I/O errors? If so, I'd recommend performing a new 
manual low-level format of those disks. Since anaconda does not support 
this, you could do so manually from within any Linux on System z 
instance having access to the affected DASDs using the dasdfmt tool 
(preferably specifying Compatible Disk Layout), even using the root 
shell within the rescue mode of the Fedora installer image

FYI and not related to the I/O errors: according to the z/VM "CP 
Commands and Utilities Reference" and your device number query (which 
corresponds to the output format of CP QUERY VIRTUAL DASD), you seem to 
have in-memory VDISKs which are FBA (9336) on devno 0300 and 0301. 
AFAIK, anaconda does not handle FBA DASDs, see also 
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=601855 and 
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=707026.
