Cockpit file-sharing update is now part of F36. Some information about the current state: (based on https://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/compose/branched/Fedora-36-20220215.n.0/c... a newer version is https://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/compose/branched/Fedora-36-20220218.n.0/c...)
(a) It is not part of the default installation set but has to get installed post-installation.
[…]# dnf install cockpit-file-sharing
It can’t get installed via cockpit interface, at least if logged in via non-root administrative account.
After a reload you get a new menu entry „File Sharing“
(b) Maybe we a currently missing localisation support. In my German installation the menu entry is in English as well as the error messages.
Probably we should contact the translation team to include the module. Maybe we have some capacity ourself? I could do the German part, hopefully eseyman French, someone else?
(c) Based on a default installation, when you try to use is you get the error message:
- Samba is not installed. Please install - Failed to load NFS services. Is NFS installed or enabled?
Either we need some additional documentation, or maybe we should include those steps as dependencies or in the installation script?
I didn’t inspect the matter any further but would leave it to jwhimple, cooltshirtguy, and xtify21 as discussed in our IRC meeting.
Best Peter
