The meeting will take place =========================================================== Fedora Server IRC meeting Wednesday, April 20 17:00 ==UTC== irc.libera.chat #fedora-meeting ===========================================================
Please, check your local time using "date -d ‚2022-04-20 17:00UTC‘"
The agenda is quite extensive. I added a proposal for most topics hoping to keep the discussion as strongly topic-centered as possible. Maybe that way we can focus the discussion to get everything done in time without sacrificing anything.

#proposed Server WG rejects the Change proposal in its current form. This would practically force Server users to switch to another distribution.

Hi Server WG,
This week I'd like to add an agenda item to discuss a potential change to the way we handle the default hostname in Fedora.
I'll be at the meeting to discuss if we have time.
Thanks!

Hi Dusty,
you and the topic are in the ‚pole position‘ according to my proposal. Anyway, I was referring to your initiative and I hope my wording is not too misleading. In the ‚pole position' you don't have to waste your time and listen to all our little nicknacks (but you can, of course :-) ).
I did some exploring and I guess I now know why some of my initial hostname configurations no longer work on our servers. Unfortunately, I had not noticed the change and just wondered (and cursed about the waste of my time).
Maybe, I got something wrong. But I would prefer ‚localhost' as fallback, that is a clear and descriptive indication for a temporary solution. And I'd like to get back to the hostname that DHCP provides - if I've already gone to the effort of configuring DHCP appropriately. And, of course, if I explicitly config a hostname in Anaconda or later using hostnamectl, that should overwrite the DHCP provided hostname.
I’m looking forward to our discussion.
Peter
I'm looking forward to the discussion as well. Sorry for not noticing the agenda already had the hostname item in it.

Could you please file a ticket so that it would contain a context to the proposal and the proposal itself?
