Hello. And nice to meet you.

I was being asked by Alexander Bokovoy to do a new logo to represent SSSD. I gave it some
cycles. Here are two ideas that came to my mind, please let me know if you like them?

The designs are more or less just the "metaphor" - focusing on the basic idea,
not the actual representation yet.

I know Garrett had some ideas too, I'll poke him about the discussion here as well,

takes when accessing a system.

Ok, good feedback. The key idea was the first one I got, the lock kinda fits the letter d
as it has a loop. Indeed, maybe the sssd logo should focus on "enable access"
rather than "lock everything out" :) I'm trying to get a good picture about
what sssd is about and what it is not. This was a good pointer on the right direction.

SSSD is as much (or more) about identity than access, so an ID Card type
of logo can also be used.

Yeah. Good point too, thanks. The one metaphor that comes to mind is the military style
id-tags or business/airline etc style name + photo tag/card hung around the neck. This
however might conflict a bit with the Dogtag Certificate System logo which uses the
military tag metaphor. I'll give it a few more cycles with Garrett and lets see what
works. 

Here's a quick sketch with simplified shape that incorporates the key as part of the
letter d shape: http://www.tigert.com/designspace/key-letterd.png - I think it might work
too.

Let's keep it simple. The best logos are the simple ones - they are easy
to remember and easy to use because they fit everywhere.

I would even choose the first one called sssd-key without any further
change. But a bigger version where the key has more details may be handy.

I did one more version and I like this last one best actually - a slightly different twist
on the key idea: http://www.tigert.com/designspace/SSSD-logo.png 

I think it would look nice in a baseball cap (orange cap and white logo for example) and
on tshirts. I hope you feel the same, it was fun to do. I think the simple shape makes it
easier to recognize and it works better on tshirts and such if those will be printed.

I like the key idea, too.

Do you have any sketches where the key is more explicit? I admit that
with the very first rough sketch I wasn't sure if it was a key..this one
is much more clear.

I like this look a lot as well. Perhaps we could make the long edge of
the 'd' longer, so as to fit one more level of notches into the edge?
That might be more pronounced. It might also necessitate increasing
the thickness of that line as well, so it doesn't look *too* long in
ratio.

I tried to make it a bit longer, but it did not really look OK - the regular letter
"d" is even shorter in that font so it looks kinda out of place stretched
longer. I think this current shape works best.

I like the style but I do not like the color.
If we are all fine with the color if would not insist but this color
seems "irritating"
I know it is the original color but there was not that much of it on the
original logo.
Any way to change it to something else?
I really do not have a preference for an alternative color but the full
solid orange sticker does not resonate with me.

Great logo but would suggest a red/green colour scheme (lock/unlock,
stop/go etc.)
