But I do not know whose call it is to make a final decision about the logo.
Would you consider a logo where SSSD is not written horizontally but
rather along some kind of a curve?

More importantly, in order to use a logo, we'd have to ask for it to be
released under an appropriate open license, such as the Creative Commons
license.

I've been thinking about a somewhat different logo style than the linear
one, actually. I was thinking about a triangle, whose sides were formed
by block-letter "S"s and a capital D in the middle, with "System",
"Security" and "Services" in smaller text along the sides of the
triangle.

I have exactly no drawing talent, however, so I can't really submit a
proposal.

To be honest, I wouldn't waste too much energy on a logo. When I did
the first one it was just to make the front wiki page a little less
anonymous, but that's all.
If I had to choose a new logo I would say the first one sent is nice,
the latter are bad.

I stumbled over sssd and thought that a project of this importance needs 
a face to represent it visually. I think it will we become very 
important together with freeIPA.

Originally I studied architecture so I have quite a strong believe that 
things should be cool on every level.

Further I see it as a contribution to a project where I otherwise could 
not help that much...

We definitely appreciate your contributions. We'd like for the SSSD to
make as big a splash as possible, certainly.

We're certainly happy to review your logo recommendations.

As far as the licensing, I'm going to propose Creative Commons for the
logo unless someone pipes up with another recommendation.

We need to be very clear about what CC license to adopt, CC has a wide
range of licenses that go from almost public domain, to almost
proprietary.

Usally in software projects it is just easier to use whatever license
is used for the code, so GPLv3+ would be fine by me, assuming we get
the image "sources" :-P

Sure you will get the sources :-) Its a svg made with inkscape. So even 
no propreitary software involved...

I think we all post our thoughts and I try to transform them into logo 
proposals.
When I have made enough proposals (at least one for every concept) we 
choose the best democratically and I tweak it till its finished. Does 
that soud like a plan?
