So far looks like two issues are mixed in this ticket:

(1) missing 'g+x' bit on /etc/sssd and sub-folders
(2) additional config snippets under /etc/sssd/conf.d/ that was *not* used
previously but *are used* now and containing bad configuration (so that SSSD
can't start)
