Mentors - start commenting in Melange
by Karsten Wade
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi:
I just started looking through the proposals submitted to
google-melange.com.[1]
So far, I'm not seeing any commenting from mentors.
We need to move ALL of our commenting to the Melange site.
Students should have a chance to get all comments in one location.
Then they can modify their proposals in response to one set of comments.
I'm not sure if students can modify their proposal after the deadline.
If so, then there is no panic. But if not, then it's *crucial* we get
comments in there right away so students can respond in the proposals.
Also, I think we may want to start giving our own scores to proposals
so we can begin to see the order of quality. I think we've done that
in the past. But I don't know if it's fair to do that before proposals
are done? (Sankarshan, your thoughts?)
Cheers - Karsten
[1] There was a Melange bug that dropped co-admins sometimes, and it
happened to me, so I haven't been seeing the traffic on all the proposals.

about google melange
by Muditha Dissanayaka
Hi fellows,
I uploaded my proposal to google melange, but I couldn't upload the
diagrams I draw. But I uploaded the URL of my fedora project wiki, so is
it necessary to upload the diagrams too to the melange?

Proposal: Java API changes checker
by Alexander Mezin
Hello.
I've created a proposal at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/GSOC_2012/Student_Application_Alexandermez...
I propose an utility that will be able to automatically generate
information about classes/methods inside the .jars and classes/methods
required by the .jars, and check if all of the dependencies are
satisfied. Additionally, it will be able to list all known
dependencies of some .jar. Checking of API changes that break
something is only one of possible use cases.
I've just read Vipul Amler's proposal on the same project idea:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/GSOC_2012/Student_Application_Vipulnsward/...
Main differences from his proposed project:
1. If I'm not mistaken, he focuses on listing API changes only. I
propose a tool that will generate list of dependencies from class
files/jars/packages - useful for package maintainers.
2. I will implement it in Java. I think that it's better to write
tools for Java in Java itself.

GSoC : Integrate Proxy Settings and Network Connections(Locations) project
by Buddhike Kurera
Hello,
Sending the following email which found on the devel-list.
Hello!
I am Siddharth 2nd year Undergraduate student pursuing M.Sc(TECH)
Information Systems at BITS-Pilani India. I am thorough with languages
like C, C++ and Java and currently learning Python.
I am keenly interested in contributing to the Integrate Proxy Settings
and Network Connections(Locations) project of Fedora Projects for
GSoC-2012.
My understanding of the project is that when a user connects to a
network, all settings such as proxy settings, IP settings (if
required), sharing options etc will be saved for each network. So
whenever the user connects to a previously connected network all these
settings are automatically loaded. Thus making networking much more
user friendly.
Please suggest me how should I go about the project. Should I straight
away make a proposal and send it across or do something else prior to
that.
Any suggestion or advice will help a lot. :)
Thanking you.
Best regards,
Siddharth Mohan Misra.
