Welcome selected students to GSoC 2013 with Fedora

With great pleasure, I would like to welcome those who are selected for the
GSoC 2013 with the Fedora project.
This year we have 10 students same as the last year and we hope an exiting
period of Summer Coding with them.
More information will be posted to the students directly and keep
continuous communications with the mentor.
As per the timeline, till June 17, Community Boding Period, students are
supposed to get familiar with the Fedora community, therefore please use
your time to explore the project and get to know about the project. If you
need any help please contact your mentors and Org Admins at any time.

[GSoC] Selections are made - Info for the next steps

Dear Students,
The selection process has come to an end. Google will soon announce the
list of students who were selected for the program.
At this moment Summer Coding FAS group has been cleared and all
the requests are rejected. Only the selected students are invited to join
with the SummerCoding FAS group. Please join with the group once you are
invited ONLY.
Please continue communications with the mentors and required information
will be communicated to you promptly. Please blog your experience though
out and send the links to the mailing-list list so that you can share ideas
with others.

GSoC Selection process

We are at the end of the selection process now. Make your SEM filled and
submitted at the end of today.
Please do not communicate any information to the students since Google make
the announcement.

Mentors - The remaining process of selecting of students per proposals

Hi Mentors,
Thanks for responding to the Student Evaluation Phase 1 and now it is time
to move forward and select the best proposal per idea.
While Google-melange is reminding that we have around 10 days to go with
the selection process, will send Student Evaluation Matrix (SEM) to mentors
who responded to Student Evaluation Phase 1 process. Please fill it and
complete, then we can go through the evaluation and discuss. The final
process is selecting the best student per idea for GSoC 2013.
Student Evaluation Matrix is using to communicate what mentors think about
the submitted proposals in a given format. Therefore it is possible to Org
Admin to evaluate all the project ideas per idea against the students.
Finally those short listed students are interviewed and the results are
discussed with the mentors to take the final decision.
Finally further instructions will be posted to mentors and please **do not
make those public** until Google announces the student selection. If there
is any inquiry please do contact me directly.
While those are newly added features to Fedora GSoC program to ensure high
quality we do hope your kind cooperation to make it success. Thanks a lot
for the dedication so far towards the program.

Mentors - Student Evaluation Phase I

Hi Mentors,
I believe you are having a nice time with the students sorting out
submitted proposals.
However it is time for us to refine project ideas and then move sorting out
students as the next step in student proposal evaluation process.
Therefore please complete the following form on or before 2013-05-13 2300
UTC, those who complete this form will receive the Student Evaluation
Matrix. Therefore please make sure this is filled asap.
It is recommended that the primary mentor may fill this form but if it is
not possible one of the mentors may fill this before the deadline.

[Important] - Proposals assigned to respective mentors

Dear Mentors,
I have already assigned the submitted proposals to relevant mentor on the
Google-Melange. Can you please check and if you think any proposal
which belongs to your idea is not assigned to you, please contact me asap
with the project idea you are mentoring.
When there are more than a mentor per idea, the proposal are assigned to
the primary mentor.

Important - Student selection process

Hi Mentors,
It is time for start ranking students applications. Please keep continuous
communications with the students and get more information if it is
required.
If there is more than one proposal per idea please try hard to select the
best proposal and for that you may need to talk with students and seek for
information. In any case you need to let them edit the proposal wiki page,
you can let them do it, but keep me informed regarding that.
Do not communicate anything regarding the students selections or selection
process directly to the students at any time instead keep Org Admins
updated about your selections.
If you have any question or need a clarification please let me know.
In Student selection process there are two phases. in the first phase
mentor(s) should select the best proposal per idea and rank the others.
Then in the next phase Org Admins will evaluate both information provided
by the mentor and student and discuss further with the mentor to make sure
important things and confirm the selection. Finally we need to select the
best student who has the passion to contribute for The Fedora Project.
I ll post the timeline for selection process with in today.

Mentors - How many slots needed

Dear Mentors,
extracting following from a previous mail, please let me know "How many
slots needed" asap.
* Then within 5th May, you need to determine whether you need a slot from
this year program based on the proposals submitted against your project
idea.(in some situations there are proposals but none is upto standard so
you dont think you need a slot) - So let me know if you need slot (email me
directly)
* If you dont not request a slot that means you dont want a slot, only
requested slots are counted.

After the Student application submitting deadline

Dear students,
We have completed determining whether submitted entries are valid to be
considered for evaluation phase. We had quite number of applications and
that made the process very lengthy and time consuming.
We are working with mentors for upcoming 2 weeks to select the best out of
the submitted applications and you will be contacted during the period for
more information and etc ...
Please keep your continuous communication with the mentors and do contact
me at any time if you need any clarification regarding the program.
