[GSoC] Channels for mentors and mentees

All, I was attempting to explain an idea on channels for the program and was hoping to see if there is even interest (or enough to warrant the effort). There is currently #fedora-apps, #fedora-hubs, #fedora-commops, #fedora-atomic, #fedora-summer-coding and #fedora-gsocmentors, However, I know some coders prefer to have a semi private cross collaboration means with fellow participants ( away from the public eye (those not in the summer coding program, and / or mentors). I was thinking there could be a #fedora-gsocstudents or similar where only those with proposals (later only those accepted) are able to use as a talk-around with only other students. And sadly it looks like interest in the respective projects will be over what we are awarded for slots :(, and I remember several students indicating desire to work (or at least apply for several and take which ever one they are deemed best for) the above proposal would leave a space for those folks to still brainstorm but not necessarily be in a active role OR talk with fellow mentees in their accepted project but also have a 'break-out' channel where only those involved are allowed to be. Leaving -summer-coding as a community channel for those looking to see what things are like / about or wishing to brainstorm or ask about pull requests form a purely community sense. We possibly could even use -summer-coding post acceptance period as a #fedora-fedmsg style channel for near real-time updates for the community or those looking to just take a 'glimpse' or catch up on what is planned / did happen at a meeting they may have missed or may miss. Open to ideas, comments, adjustments and /or flat out denials. -- Corey W. While going through your list of ideas, I found two projects for which I really want to contribute- 'Fedora Web App Development: CommOps & Fedora Hub'. Here are a few tips for what we're looking for a GSoC applicant and proposal: 0) Communication Remote work and collaboration requires us to stay in touch with eachother in many different places. Hello guys! I'm trying to make a proposal. So to do that I need to register at FAS and make a wiki page on fedoraproject.org. So I have a problem. I do register on FAS and successfully signed CLA but I cannot login to wiki. I always get this error: Login error You have entered an invalid username and password. If you are certain that your username and password are correct, confirm that you can log in to the Fedora Account System (https://admin.fedoraproject.org/accounts/) and that you have signed the CLA. Hi, I'm a final year computer engineering undergraduate in department of computer engineering, Faculty of Engineering, university of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. I'm very interested to work on the above mentioned project on in this summer of code. I completed my internship in WSO2 which is an open source middleware company (It is also involved in GSOC for few years) and I'm very interested to work in open source environment. As well as I'm a web fan and I have worked with so much in HTML/Javascript/CSS, Jquery, AngularJS and Bootstrap as well. Most of the things in backend was done using python Flask micro-framework and its restful API. So I have hands on experience in Jinja 2 templates too. GSOC Pagure and Commops

Hey, This is Akshay Shipurkar (akshays), I'm currently completing my final year of Computer Engineering from University of Mumbai. I was introduced to fedora through DGPLUG (Linux Users' Group Of Durgapur) an organization which teaches and helps students to grow and become up stream contributes. Although I have recently joined the community, I have been helped by many members of the fedora community and i aspire to work with them to learn and contribute to the greater goal of the fedora community i.e Freedom, Friends, Features, First. After going through the list of project ideas for this year, I'm interested in two projects 1.Pagure 2.Community Operations (CommOps) I have starting testing fedora 24 and have planned to test 1 - 2 Builds per week. From last week when i have joined Fedora Project, I have tested, tagged some packages, Understood how the fedora uses the RSA key to authenticate. Thats because i was not able to git clone using my pagure account for 2days using ssh and one of the member on fedora-admin irc channel helped me to get past the hurdle that was caused by the caching system bug.( review this paragraph again) I have been trying to get hold of the Pagure system and i know it will take a while to figure out everything. About Myself I volunteer as Student Chair of IEEE-DRIEMS student branch. I'm also part of Mozilla student Ambassador Program. I also volunteer at Rotaract club of Panvel as Sargant-At-Arms. I have done internship at Reliance Industries Ltd as summer trainee and at a kleverk a small webdesign company. I am comfortable with C, C++, Java, Python (i know the basics),HTML/CSS, JavaScript. Hi everyone. I am a first year undergraduate student studying Biological Sciences and Bioengineering at IIT Kanpur. I have a keen interest in coding. I have been working with various linux distributions including fedora (currently using fedora 23 on my new laptop(as it's a 6th gen intel skylake processor, I wanted to have kernel 4.4 and fedora is cutting edge, so opted for it)) for the past 8 years. I am quite comfortable with tweaking around with system files. Also, I am fluent in C and C++ (started coding a year before I started using linux). So, I'd like to apply for the project "Support for end-of-life notification". I haven't created a real world software till date. So, I'd like to use this opportunity to start contributing to open source community. I'm good at solving puzzles but I want to get a taste of "How to create a real world software". As the fedora wiki page shows, the mentor for this project is jberkus. I'd like to get started as soon as possible. Should I send a direct email to the mentor in order to get started?

Hi, I am Amila Sampath, and Engineering student form University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Since I'm a Linux lover, I planed on working with a Linux related project for the GSOC 2016. I found interesting with your project of rollback Linux upgrades. I have experience with Linux since 2006, and I have made my own customized Linux distribution on last year. Working through with the project, I would like to get some more information about the project. I think about the project and I came out with some solutions for this project. One is backup the system before upgrading the new Linux vision and this will cost HDD space of user PC. Other method, is to search and save old vision file links form a given server and for rollback, download that files build up the old file structure. In this method it will cost Internet service charges to users. And another method was to while upgrading the system, scan the new file and old file and save the difference of the file in another file and replace that data when the system is rollback.
