Hello everyone! I am Dhanesh Sabane, a Computer Science undergraduate from India. The recent article on Fedora Magazine tempted me to do more and contribute to Fedora through GSoC. I'm hoping to start small by getting involved with Fedora Atomic - Support for end-of-life notification. Fedora 21 was my entry point to the awesome world of Fedora and I'll be giving my best. I'm familiar with C, C++, Python, HTML and Java. I'm currently practicing my HTML and CSS skills with web2py.

Hi Dhanesh, welcome to the GSoC 2016 list! Glad to have you here.
Thanks for reaching out! Glad the Fedora Magazine article inspired you to get involved. Seems like you have a good set of languages under your belt that you could use to jump in with!
Yes, end-of-life notifications ARE listed as a GSoC project. Whether or not we get a slot for it will depend on a couple of things:
1) The number of mentors allocated to the project idea. 2) The number and strength of applicants we have applying for a slot. 3) The number of slots we are awarded by Google.
The best way to ensure that we DO get a slot for it is to follow the procedure described at the bottom of the GSoC organization page.

You've already introduced yourself to the mailing list and completed your application, so there's a couple items off your checklist. Next, you can begin frequenting the various IRC channels (#fedora-summer-coding, #fedora-apps, and #fedora-commops), and then work with mentors to figure out your next steps. Additionally, there is a post on the Fedora Community Blog that should help answer many of your questions about what to do next.

Finally, if you didn't see Remy's earlier post on the mailing list, he gave some more specific instructions about GSoC 2016, what to expect, and some great advice for moving forward. Please give it a read if you have not already!

We look forward to getting to know you!

Thank you Justin!
I think i can check a couple more items off my list : 1) I'm already a frequenter on IRC (IRC Nick : dhanesh95) 2) I'm communicating with Josh Berkus to know more about the project idea. I would be glad to communicate with other mentors too, if any.
I was unaware about Remy's earlier post. Thank you for directing me to it.
Looking forward to working collaboratively !
