My name is Madi Paris and I am a first year Computer Science major at Michigan Technological University and I am really interested in working with the Fedora Project for GSOC 2016 on the support for end-of-life notification project. I have experience as a Red Hat System Administrator and programming in Java, Python, and C/C++ primarily. I was a part of GSOC for summer 2015 with Systers and would love to start getting more involved in the Fedora Project and I think GSOC would be a great place to start! Awesome to hear you have experience as a RHSA as well as in the other languages! It also seems like you're coming in with some experience with a previous year of GSoC, so it seems like you're a little more familiar with how to navigate the ropes.
Yes, the end-of-life notifications ARE listed as a GSoC project. Whether or not we get a slot for it will depend on a couple of things:
1) The number of mentors allocated to the project idea. 2) The number and strength of applicants we have applying for a slot. 3) The number of slots we are awarded by Google.
The best way to ensure that we DO get a slot for it is to follow the procedure described at the bottom of the GSoC organization page.

You've already introduced yourself to the mailing list now, so that's one item off your checklist. Next, you can begin frequenting the various IRC channels (#fedora-summer-coding, #fedora-apps, and #cockpit, etc.), and then work with mentors to figure out your next steps. Additionally, there is a post on the Fedora Community Blog that should help answer many of your questions about what to do next.
