There are even three methods:
1. Requesting driver packages via device-ID-make-model tags in available packages via PackageKit (currently only used by Red Hat/Fedora)
2. Requesting driver packages through the database on the OpenPrinting web server via Jockey (currently only used on Ubuntu and perhaps also on Debian).
3. On the manual install page of the new printer wizard you cannot only choose make and model foir local drivers or use a locally available PPd file, but you can also let OpenPrinting be searched for your printer and a single PPD file for it be downloaded.
