Google Summer of Code,2020(Introduction)
by Sakshi Grover
Hello,
I hope everyone is in the best of health. Here I have a short introduction
of myself and why I want to work in this project.
Introduction
My name is Sakshi Grover, hailing from Satara, a small town in Maharashtra,
India. I am currently a second-year undergraduate student at Usha Mittal
Institute of Technology, SNDT University, Mumbai. I am pursuing my
Bachelor’s in Computer Science and Technology. My love for coding
developed after I stumbled upon Raspberry Pi and ended up creating a Smart
Mirror for a project in the second semester of my engineering course. It
inspired me to further plunge into the world of IoT and Machine Learning.
So far, I have developed a website for a client and I am currently
developing an application for the same. I am extremely curious by nature,
and my love for electronics makes me think about various ways for
interfacing software and hardware. To be a part of the prestigious Google
Summer of Code along with technical skills it is highly important for a
person to be enthusiastic and have a calm and peaceful mind.
GSoC will help me understand more about open source technologies and their
real life applications besides giving me the much needed hands on exposure.
I am sure to commit 5-7 hours daily for this fascinating project. Also, I
would like to remain a part of GSoC post the program, as learning has no
end.
Technical Background
General- PostgreSQL, mySQL, Google firebase, flutter, Basics of Machine
learning,Shell Scripting
Languages- C, C++, Python, Java, Javascript, GNU Octave
Development- Web Development(Wix,HTML/CSS), Android App Development
Libraries- Tensorflow, NumPy
I would like to work for the project idea *Improve Network Linux System
.Role *under your esteemed guidance.
Primarily, I have worked with ansible for python on debian os for raspberry
pi. Also, I have worked on shell scripting on Linux. I have read many
papers on Network State Management to operate independently. It would be a
great opportunity to work for Fedora as this would help be increase my
understanding and efficiency in using open source operating systems.
Thanks and Regards,
Sakshi Grover

Self Introduction:Harsh Jain
by Harsh Jain
Hey,
I'm a CSE undergraduate (currently in second year) and am pretty excited to
work on the network role and I'm looking forward to working with everyone .
I've mostly been trying to help with setting up the Pantheon de ,but I
thought this would be a good opportunity to learn about other things and
automation and testing intrigue me .
Again, looking forward to working with everyone
Thanks,

Inquiry about gsoc project - Improve network linux system role
by Arunagirinadan Sudharshan
Hi,
I’m Sudharshan, computer science student from Sri Lanka and this is my first time participating for GSOC also I’m new to open source contribution. I want contribute on Ansible project (Improve network linux system role , https://github.com/linux-system-roles/network/issues/150 ), I have experience in python 3, REST api development and network programming. I have beginner knowlegde in ansible. Can I get more information about how can get started and which addition areas should I get familiar with?

Converting roles to use tox + supporting scripts/config from templates
by Rich Megginson
I started with kdump. It is pretty straightforward - clean yaml, no
python code.
Next I tried storage - not trivial - several python and ansible issues.
I haven't tried any of the other ones.
If we convert all of the roles to use tox, should we ignore the CI
failures, then go back later and file PRs to fix the issues? Or should
"convert role to use tox" mean "convert role to use tox and CI should
pass 100%"?

conversion to tox - run molecule by default?
by Rich Megginson
I'm looking at adding support for tox to all of the roles that don't
currently use tox. For example, here is diff of .travis.yml from kdump:
script:
- - molecule --version
- - ansible --version
- - molecule lint
- - molecule syntax
- - molecule test
+ - ./.travis/runtox
and here is the relevant section from tox:
[tox]
envlist =
black, pylint, flake8,
py{26,27,36,37,38},
custom
molecule is not in this list. Should we add molecule to this list?
Seems like we should, or tox conversion will regress travis CI behavior.

how to pylint and pytest storage role python code?
by Rich Megginson
I'm trying to convert the storage role to use tox. I'm getting errors
like this running pylint and pytest:
pylint:
************* Module find_unused_disk
E: 67, 0: No name 'size' in module 'ansible.module_utils'
(no-name-in-module)
E: 67, 0: Unable to import 'ansible.module_utils.size' (import-error)
pytest:
Traceback:
unit/test_unused_disk.py:2: in <module>
import find_unused_disk
../library/find_unused_disk.py:67: in <module>
from ansible.module_utils.size import Size
E ImportError: No module named size
How do you run pytest? Do you have to set PYTHONPATH?
