Greetings testers,
Preupgrade Test Day is coming tomorrow:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2010-04-29_Preupgrade
Preupgrade[1] is a hot topic whose usage, steps and issues are often
discussed in the community, so this time we mainly focus on this
important feature and try to summarize all the problems encountered
during upgrade. Test cases have been designed to cover common
circumstances, including low /boot space status. Therefore, if you are
interested in preupgrade or plan to upgrade your system in this way,
please show up yourself in this event and help discovering bugs within
it before F13 final release.
Now it's nearly the end of F13 test day schedule, so why not take this
chance to participate and have fun from it?!
φ(* ̄0 ̄)>
Cheers,
Hurry

The meeting slot is coming up in 1hr 50mins (15:00 UTC). We haven't had
a lot to discuss lately and there's nothing on the proposed agenda this
week, so I'm suggesting not to hold the meeting - if there's anything
worse than an unnecessary meeting I'm yet to find it ;). If anyone has
something they really wanted to bring up, please reply to this mail and
we can go ahead and hold it anyway. Or if people just want to
congregate and chat at the planned time, please do go ahead and do so.
I'm not sure if I'll be there, I may be out at the time, but if I can
I'll pop online.
Thanks everyone!

Hi all,
So far we have very less attendance in storage test day[1].
I know that installation and storage device may be the
barriers for involvements, but for the ones who have
RAID, ISCSI, FCoE, multipath devices, can you please
spend a little time to participate in this test day?
It would be very helpful to discover the problems under
storageFiltering, which is not very mature yet.
Thanks a lot,
Hurry

Greetings,
A big test day is coming up tomorrow - StorageFiltering[1] test day:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2010-04-22_StorageFiltering
At the request of many folks with lots of storage available, anaconda
now has the ability to prune the available storage presented as an
install target and provide users the ability to select which devices to
use during installation. Therefore, users with varies kinds of storage
devices like RAID, ISCSI, FCoE, Multipath etc are highly welcomed to
this test day.
The Test Day runs all *Thursday* in #fedora-test-day on Freenode IRC.
Hope to see you there! (ˉ▽ ̄~)

# What: F-13 Blocker bug review
# When: Friday, 2010-04-23 @ 16:00 UTC (12 PM EDT)
# Where: #fedora-bugzappers on irc.freenode.net
Today in about an hour (apologies for the late notice!) will be the
second scheduled [1] Fedora 13 Blocker bug review meeting. We'll
be reviewing all F13Blocker bugs [2] to determine whether they impact
the release criteria [3]. Note that last week we temporarily moved the
meeting forward by an hour; this week it's back to its usual time.
The list of bugs to be discussed at the meeting is included below
(sorted by component). As we approach the final release, these meetings
often take a long time to work through the list. If you are the
reporter or assignee you can help. Take a moment to review the bug
ensure the issue should be listed as a F13Blocker.
Thanks,
James

Due to ongoing technical issues with python-bugzilla, I'm just including
a link to a Bugzilla search for the list. It's sorted by assignee, as
you don't seem to be able to sort by package in Bugzilla's web front
end.

The insanity that is Graphics Test Week is now over, so it's time for
the recap!
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2010-04-13_Nouveauhttps://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2010-04-14_Radeonhttps://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2010-04-15_Intel
We had a great turnout again; thanks to everyone for testing. Here's
some interesting numbers I just pulled out...
f11 nouveau: 104 tests, 42 bugs - ratio 0.40
f12 nouveau: 53 tests, 34 bugs - ratio 0.64
f13 nouveau: 78 tests, 26 bugs - ratio 0.33
f11 radeon: 55 tests, 46 bugs - ratio 0.84
f12 radeon: 61 tests, 81 bugs - ratio 1.33
f13 radeon: 48 tests, 33 bugs - ratio 0.69
f11 intel: 23 tests, 21 bugs - ratio 0.91
f12 intel: 29 tests, 31 bugs - ratio 1.07
f13 intel: 38 tests, 38 bugs - ratio 1.00
The 'ratio' is the number of bugs per test. Obviously there's wiggle
room here; different people report different bugs, and some of the
drivers implement features the others don't (and hence have more
'surface area' for bugs). But I think they're quite fun anyway. Nouveau
and Radeon both regressed from f11 to f12, according to the numbers, and
got better than either previous release for f13 (at Test Day time).
Intel has stayed fairly steady. According to this analysis, Nouveau wins
the 'least buggy driver' contest by a fair margin, which is interesting!
For F13, it has half as many bugs per test as Radeon, and a third as
many as Intel. (Of course, I'm sure some of our erstwhile devs would
argue it could fairly be renamed the 'least crack-addled hardware
manufacturer contest'...)
The F11 Test Days happened in March 2009, the F12 Test Days in September
2009, and the F13 last week; these are pretty comparable points in the
respective cycles.
In terms of participation, we had the largest number of testers for F11,
with the nouveau number accounting for most of that; I suspect this is
because nouveau was very new and shiny in F11 and impossible to use on
most distros, so people were very interested in trying it out for the
first time. F12 had the fewest tests run, and F13 pretty much splits the
difference.
Since I'm getting up a head of steam, let's look at fixes!
f11 nouveau: 42 bugs, 4 open, 8 closeddupe, 24 closedfixed, 6 closedunfixed - 70.59%
f12 nouveau: 34 bugs, 11 open, 8 closeddupe, 14 closedfixed, 1 closedunfixed - 53.85%
f11 radeon: 46 bugs, 14 open, 10 closeddupe, 19 closedfixed, 3 closedunfixed - 52.78%
f12 radeon: 81 bugs, 19 open, 32 closeddupe, 28 closedfixed, 2 closedunfixed - 57.14%
f11 intel: 21 bugs, 7 open, 1 closeddupe, 12 closedfixed, 1 closedunfixed - 60%
f12 intel: 31 bugs, 7 open, 12 closeddupe, 12 closedfixed, 0 closedunfixed - 63.16%
I counted CANTFIX, WONTFIX and INSUFFICIENT_DATA as 'unfixed', ERRATA,
RAWHIDE, CURRENTRELEASE and NEXTRELEASE as 'fixed'. NOTABUG I lumped in
with DUPLICATE as the 'closeddupe' number (these are reports that should
be discarded from consideration entirely). The percentage is calculated
as:
closedfixed / (bugs - closeddupe) * 100
i.e. it roughly indicates the percentage of genuine unique bugs reported
that have been fixed so far. These numbers are pretty close, both across
drivers and across releases; we've fixed just over half the bugs
reported. I think the outlying high nouveau result is probably a
consequence of 'low-hanging fruit' - the driver was in a pretty initial
state at that point, so the bugs exposed are likely to have been, on the
whole, easier to fix. Obviously I've left F13 out as the maintainers
have had only half a week to work on the bugs!
The raw lists of bugs reported from the F13 Test Days follow. Thanks
very much to all testers, and to the wonderful Fedora X.org developers
and triagers:
Adam Jackson
Dave Airlie
Jerome Glisse
Ben Skeggs
Matej Cepl
François Cami
Chris Campbell
for helping to organize the events, set up the test cases, man the IRC
channel and triage - and of course fix! - all the bugs.

* kernel triage with nirik
* open floor
We have some follow-ups from last week, and I'm hoping nirik might be
able to brief us on some ideas he's had about kernel triage.
Please do come out for the meeting - it'd be great to see more faces,
and we don't bite, we promise! It's a great opportunity to raise any
issues you've come across while bugzapping, or ask any questions you
might have. See you there!

Test folks: you all are underrepresented in the survey data. In this
final push, we'd love to see as much love from testers/QA folk as we can
possibly get. Thanks so much.
=====
All,
As some of you may know, professors at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke
University have been conducting a study of Fedora, and have put together an
online survey based on interviews they conducted with several dozen folks from
the community.
You can access the survey here:
http://www.projectassessment.org/fedora/
Their research goal is to focus more deeply on three primary themes that
emerged from over 20 interviews they conducted with participants in the Fedora
Project:
o Values that are relevant to participants (e.g., to what
extent is 'Open Source' a relevant value across the Fedora
Project?),
o Activities that participants engage in to help sustain the
community (e.g., to what extent is 'testing' a collaborative
activity across the Fedora Project?), and
o Tools participants use for communication or workflow (e.g.,
to what extent is 'Planet' or 'Koji' used across the Fedora
Project?).
The findings of this research will go a long way to helping us better
understand what makes the Fedora community tick. I think it is a hallmark of
our success as a community that academics are starting to study in detail the
ins-and-outs of how our community works.
Please respond as soon as possible -- should take about 15 minutes of your
time. If you have any comments or concerns, please feel free to email me.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer these questions.

As racing has the Monaco GP, tennis has Wimbledon, and soccer has the
World Cup, so the Test Day schedule has its crowning event: yes, it's
Graphics Test Week again!
As with Fedora 12, we're smooshing all the graphics card Test Days into
one week to save space on the schedule and make everything feel that
much more momentous. So, Tuesday April 13th will be NVIDIA (nouveau)
Test Day [1], Wednesday April 14th will be ATI/AMD (radeon) Test Day
[2], and Thursday April 15th will be Intel graphics Test Day [3]. As
always, we need your feedback to know where we're at for the Fedora 13
cycle and fix as many critical bugs ahead of release as we can. Again as
always, it's not a disaster if you miss the day - you can do the testing
before or after the day, and we'll still be able to use your results;
the day is just when you can be sure someone will be around on IRC to
help with the testing and discuss the results. And finally, again as
always, there's no need to have an unstable Fedora installation to do
the testing: you can use a live CD if you don't want to install Fedora
13 or Rawhide.
Significant changes to graphics support for Fedora 13 include very
experimental 3D support for NVIDIA cards, and improvements to the
still-experimental 3D support for recent AMD/ATI cards. Please do come
out and help us with the testing this week! You can do all the testing
just by following the Wiki instructions, but there will also be QA team
members or developers present in #fedora-test-day on Freenode IRC
throughout the day to help with the testing and discuss the results (and
possibly even fix some of the bugs in real time).

Greetings folks,
Thanks to all those who attended and contributed testing during the SSSD
by default test day. We didn't anticipate a huge number of
participants, but given the revised authconfig user-interface, and that
SSSD will be used by default, we hoped for a larger turnout. If you
weren't able to participate during the event, no worries. You can still
participate, by running one or more of the test cases [1] in your
environment.
The following issues were reported during the test day:
* 578303 NEW - SSSD users cannot log in through GDM
* 578231 NEW - Add checkbox 'Allow authentication via self-signed
certificates'
* 578124 ASSIGNED - Get "unknow error" box when change password
* 578219 ASSIGNED - Configuring ldaps:// + cacert does not run
cacert_rehash on downloaded certificate
* 578325 ASSIGNED - authconfig uses sss for automount
* 578311 ON_QA - authconfig doesn't remember "[X] Use TLS to
encrypt connection" setting
* 577263 ON_QA - Changing authentication providers crashes
authconfig
For the full result matrix, refer to the test day wiki page [2]
Thanks,
James

Hi, everyone. We're looking at pulling kernel-2.6.33.1-24.fc13 into
Fedora 13 Beta, quite late, because current Beta candidate builds
include kernel-2.6.33.1-19.fc13 which is known to include a severe bug
that breaks boot on systems with Broadcom wired ethernet adapters
supported by the b44 module.
However, -24 has other changes from -19, including to the nouveau
(NVIDIA graphics) and iwlwifi (Intel wifi) drivers. We really need as
many people as possible to test kernel -24, which you can get at
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=164598 , and
confirm that it works okay on your systems.
To install it, use 'rpm -ivh' for the kernel and -devel packages. If you
have kernel-headers installed, 'rpm -Uvh' that first. Then reboot to the
kernel and check that it boots up okay. Please reply to this thread with
your results. Thanks!

Greetings,
Virtualization Test day is coming up this Thursday:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2010-04-08_Virtualization
This time will focus on Virtualization[1] improvements in Fedora 13.
There is a large
number of virtualization improvements coming in Fedora, and the test
cases have been
divided up into different sections for testing. You can contribute by
either finding new
virtualization bugs or helping reproduce existing ones[2]. See How to
debug Virt
problems page[3] for help with filing and diagnosing virtualization bugs.
The test day runs all Thursday on #fedora-test-day on Freenode IRC.
Please don't
hesitate to come and join this exciting *Virtualization* day!

This is a post-event review of the ABRT test day [1].
Thank you everyone who contributed to ABRT testing. Unfortunately
there weren't many attendants, probably because it was really close
to Easter holidays. But still there were some bugs discovered,
the list is here (and I'm sure even more bugs were discovered and
fixed by ABRT developers when preparing the test cases):
578875 NEW - SELinux is preventing /usr/sbin/abrtd "read" access on sosreport-localhost-20100401160323-61f2.tar.xz.
578878 NEW - Items in context menu on empty list of crashes should be empty
578840 ASSIGNED - Old crashes are deleted when exceeding quota
578969 ASSIGNED - ABRT does not react to unhandled Python exceptions that don't have tracebacks (e.g. IndentationError)
578877 CLOSED DUPLICATE - SELinux is preventing /usr/sbin/abrtd "unlink" access on sosreport-localhost-20100401160323-61f2.tar.xz.
578976 CLOSED NOTABUG - ABRT did not report Python segfault (unsigned package)

Here's a quick recap of last week's Printing Test
Day:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2010-03-25_Printing
The turnout was somewhat disappointing: we only had results from about a
half dozen testers. If anyone has a particular reason they didn't
attend, we'd love to hear about it. We'd have liked much wider testing
on the automatic driver installation feature.
Nonetheless, four bugs were filed, all of which have now been addressed:
576928 MODIFIED - Missing Device ID for HP LaserJet 2300
576615 CLOSED ERRATA - RFE: add InstallPrinterDrivers D-Bus method for session service
576616 CLOSED DUPLICATE - HP LaserJet 1018 doesn't get installed in Fedora-13
577022 CLOSED WORKSFORME - Printer Test Day: HP Deskjet 959C not prompted.
Thanks to all those who did come out to test!

Despite a heroic effort by developers and testers, we have not been able
to reach Beta release criteria by the time of the Go / No Go meeting.
There are still unresolved bugs and unknown test results. Because of
this we've enacted a 1 week slip of the Beta release date. This does
not mean we will be pulling in a bunch of "nice to have" updates, we
will instead be concentrating only on release blocking issues in order
to produce an RC that achieves Beta release criteria. Promotion of
builds into "stable" for F13 will continue to be extremely targeted
until an RC goes "GOLD".
Because this is the second slip in the Fedora 13 cycle, we have also
decided to bump the rest of our release dates by 1 week. The schedules
will be updated tonight and tomorrow to reflect these new dates.
