F-13 Blocker Meeting 2010-04-16 @ 15:00 UTC (11 AM EDT)
by James Laska
# What: F-13 Blocker bug review
# When: Friday, 2010-04-16 @ 15:00 UTC (11 AM EDT)
# Where: #fedora-bugzappers on irc.freenode.net
As if we needed another reminder that time flies, tomorrow will be the
first of 4 scheduled [1] Fedora 13 Blocker bug review meetings. We'll
be reviewing all F13Blocker bugs [2] to determine whether they impact
the release criteria [3].
The list of bugs to be discussed at the meeting is included below
(sorted by component). As we approach the final release, these meetings
often take a long time to work through the list. If you are the
reporter or assignee you can help. Take a moment to review the bug
ensure the issue should be listed as a F13Blocker.
Thanks,
James

by Adam Williamson
Event: Fedora Bug Triage Meeting
Date: 2010-04-13
Time: 15:00 UTC
Location: #fedora-meeting on irc.freenode.net
Additions or corrections to the agenda? Reply to this email.
= Agenda =
* follow ups
* kernel triage with nirik
* open floor
We have some follow-ups from last week, and I'm hoping nirik might be
able to brief us on some ideas he's had about kernel triage.
Please do come out for the meeting - it'd be great to see more faces,
and we don't bite, we promise! It's a great opportunity to raise any
issues you've come across while bugzapping, or ask any questions you
might have. See you there!

Fedora research survey. Test folks, please help.
by Greg DeKoenigsberg
Test folks: you all are underrepresented in the survey data. In this
final push, we'd love to see as much love from testers/QA folk as we can
possibly get. Thanks so much.
=====
All,
As some of you may know, professors at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke
University have been conducting a study of Fedora, and have put together an
online survey based on interviews they conducted with several dozen folks from
the community.
You can access the survey here:
http://www.projectassessment.org/fedora/
Their research goal is to focus more deeply on three primary themes that
emerged from over 20 interviews they conducted with participants in the Fedora
Project:
o Values that are relevant to participants (e.g., to what
extent is 'Open Source' a relevant value across the Fedora
Project?),
o Activities that participants engage in to help sustain the
community (e.g., to what extent is 'testing' a collaborative
activity across the Fedora Project?), and
o Tools participants use for communication or workflow (e.g.,
to what extent is 'Planet' or 'Koji' used across the Fedora
Project?).
The findings of this research will go a long way to helping us better
understand what makes the Fedora community tick. I think it is a hallmark of
our success as a community that academics are starting to study in detail the
ins-and-outs of how our community works.
Please respond as soon as possible -- should take about 15 minutes of your
time. If you have any comments or concerns, please feel free to email me.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer these questions.

Graphics Test Week is coming!
by Adam Williamson
As racing has the Monaco GP, tennis has Wimbledon, and soccer has the
World Cup, so the Test Day schedule has its crowning event: yes, it's
Graphics Test Week again!
As with Fedora 12, we're smooshing all the graphics card Test Days into
one week to save space on the schedule and make everything feel that
much more momentous. So, Tuesday April 13th will be NVIDIA (nouveau)
Test Day [1], Wednesday April 14th will be ATI/AMD (radeon) Test Day
[2], and Thursday April 15th will be Intel graphics Test Day [3]. As
always, we need your feedback to know where we're at for the Fedora 13
cycle and fix as many critical bugs ahead of release as we can. Again as
always, it's not a disaster if you miss the day - you can do the testing
before or after the day, and we'll still be able to use your results;
the day is just when you can be sure someone will be around on IRC to
help with the testing and discuss the results. And finally, again as
always, there's no need to have an unstable Fedora installation to do
the testing: you can use a live CD if you don't want to install Fedora
13 or Rawhide.
Significant changes to graphics support for Fedora 13 include very
experimental 3D support for NVIDIA cards, and improvements to the
still-experimental 3D support for recent AMD/ATI cards. Please do come
out and help us with the testing this week! You can do all the testing
just by following the Wiki instructions, but there will also be QA team
members or developers present in #fedora-test-day on Freenode IRC
throughout the day to help with the testing and discuss the results (and
possibly even fix some of the bugs in real time).

2010-03-30 - SSSD By Default Test Day report
by James Laska
Greetings folks,
Thanks to all those who attended and contributed testing during the SSSD
by default test day. We didn't anticipate a huge number of
participants, but given the revised authconfig user-interface, and that
SSSD will be used by default, we hoped for a larger turnout. If you
weren't able to participate during the event, no worries. You can still
participate, by running one or more of the test cases [1] in your
environment.
The following issues were reported during the test day:
* 578303 NEW - SSSD users cannot log in through GDM
* 578231 NEW - Add checkbox 'Allow authentication via self-signed
certificates'
* 578124 ASSIGNED - Get "unknow error" box when change password
* 578219 ASSIGNED - Configuring ldaps:// + cacert does not run
cacert_rehash on downloaded certificate
* 578325 ASSIGNED - authconfig uses sss for automount
* 578311 ON_QA - authconfig doesn't remember "[X] Use TLS to
encrypt connection" setting
* 577263 ON_QA - Changing authentication providers crashes
authconfig
For the full result matrix, refer to the test day wiki page [2]
Thanks,
James

urgent testing call: F13 kernel-2.6.33.1-24.fc13
by Adam Williamson
Hi, everyone. We're looking at pulling kernel-2.6.33.1-24.fc13 into
Fedora 13 Beta, quite late, because current Beta candidate builds
include kernel-2.6.33.1-19.fc13 which is known to include a severe bug
that breaks boot on systems with Broadcom wired ethernet adapters
supported by the b44 module.
However, -24 has other changes from -19, including to the nouveau
(NVIDIA graphics) and iwlwifi (Intel wifi) drivers. We really need as
many people as possible to test kernel -24, which you can get at
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=164598 , and
confirm that it works okay on your systems.
To install it, use 'rpm -ivh' for the kernel and -devel packages. If you
have kernel-headers installed, 'rpm -Uvh' that first. Then reboot to the
kernel and check that it boots up okay. Please reply to this thread with
your results. Thanks!

2010-04-01 ABRT Test Day report
by Kamil Paral
This is a post-event review of the ABRT test day [1].
Thank you everyone who contributed to ABRT testing. Unfortunately
there weren't many attendants, probably because it was really close
to Easter holidays. But still there were some bugs discovered,
the list is here (and I'm sure even more bugs were discovered and
fixed by ABRT developers when preparing the test cases):
578875 NEW - SELinux is preventing /usr/sbin/abrtd "read" access on sosreport-localhost-20100401160323-61f2.tar.xz.
578878 NEW - Items in context menu on empty list of crashes should be empty
578840 ASSIGNED - Old crashes are deleted when exceeding quota
578969 ASSIGNED - ABRT does not react to unhandled Python exceptions that don't have tracebacks (e.g. IndentationError)
578877 CLOSED DUPLICATE - SELinux is preventing /usr/sbin/abrtd "unlink" access on sosreport-localhost-20100401160323-61f2.tar.xz.
578976 CLOSED NOTABUG - ABRT did not report Python segfault (unsigned package)
For the full result matrix please see the test day wiki page [1].
