autofs
by Parrish M Myers
Hello,
With the release of autofs v4, has anyone in the fedora group
considered adding it to the package list.
ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/daemons/autofs/v4
It helps out greatly when in an NFS/NIS environment when home
directories are automounted. As far as I can tell the 3.x version in
the distribution right now won't/can't do this.
Thanks,
Parrish

Pango gone bango...
by Mark Derricutt
This mornings updates-testing installed a new release of gnome-libs and
pango, now I have no fonts and get the following error:
(Null) - No builtin or dynamically loaded modules
were found. Pango will not work correctly. This probably means
there was an error in the creation of:
'/etc/pango/pango.modules'
You may be able to recreate this file by running pango-querymodules.
GLib - file ghash.c: line 382 (g_hash_table_remove): assertion `hash_table != NULL' failed
Running pango-querymodules-32 outputs stuff to the console but doesn't
seem to do anything. I tried redirecting to this /etc/pango/pango.modules
but that also seemed to do nothing.
Anyone got a fix for this at all? I don't seem to have any earlier pango
rpms around at the moment to replace them with so will go hunting...

Bugday 10: Help test the XFree86 vesa driver.
by Jef Spaleta
Mike Harris has asked for testing of the Vesa video driver, which could
be used for a "safe mode" in Fedora. The problem is that many BIOS's
Vesa modes are broken, so he needs a good blacklist of broken situations
with the Vesa driver
You can find example instructions on how to go through a Vesa driver
test for your video hardware here:
http://www.fedora.us/wiki/VesaDriverTesting
Please read through the testing example completely before starting your
test, paying extra attention to the instructions for searching for and
filing bug reports for this test procedure.
And please be aware that vesa driver testing is focusing on low level X
operation and not on application level issues. The testing is
specifically to test:
1) video driver/X server stability
2) Screen corruption/splitting/misalignment/similar
3) mouse pointer corruption/misalignment
If there is no X server crash, no screen corruption/misalignment, no
mouse problems, then the vesa driver is working and you don't need to
file a bug report as part of this test procedure.

Unfortunately I won't be able to do any more kernel testing on that box
until the new year.

New test kernel.
by Dave Jones
There's an experimental test kernel available for folks using the
testing repository (kernel-2.4.22-2132).
Theres a fairly set of changes in this release due to the addition
of the Tux http accelerator that we had in Red Hat Linux 9.
I'd appreciate it very much if folks could hammer on this a little
and see what falls out. The usage of Tux is no different from how
it was in previous releases, so all existing documentation suffices.
Cheers.

foomatic 3.0.0-13
by Thomas Dodd
What in particular about the current foomatic rpm requires perl>=5.8.1 ?
I find nothing noting that version in the foomatic files.
Also, trying to build newer cups, when was -fpie and -pie added to gcc
tools?
