Current fc5 kernels are preemptable using voluntary preemption,
and have been for about a week or so.

Rebuilding kdemultimedia w/ JuK
by Gregory Hayes
I understand that kdemultimedia needs to be rebuilt in order to build
JuK, however with the most recent src.rpms I am running into trouble:
1. If I edit the spec and enable JuK (and nothing else) rpmbuild dies
building JuK with:
playlistitem.h:164: error: expected `)' before '*' token
(possibly GCC/G++ 4.x constraint?)
2. If I try "CXX=g++32 CC=gcc32 rpmbuild -ba kdemultimedia.spec", it
always complains that the compiler (gcc32) can't create executables.
(Is one of the patches applied by the spec causing this??)
3. If I turn on mpeglib and d/l the tar.bz2 from the url in the spec,
the same result happens if I try example 1 or 2.
Has anyone been able to build JuK with the most recent packages. I did
have it working with kdemultimedia 3.4.0, but all I remember doing
then was rebuilding the src.rpm, things seem to be much more difficult
now ;)
Thanks in advance!

problem with mysql and targeted policy
by Pau Aliagas
I've just upgraded a FC3 to FC4 server and I keep on geting this errors:
audit(1120575052.029:1154): avc: denied { name_connect } for pid=18957
comm="mysqld" dest=3306 scontext=root:system_r:mysqld_t
tcontext=system_u:object_r:mysqld_port_t tclass=tcp_socket
audit(1120575112.039:1155): avc: denied { name_connect } for pid=18957
comm="mysqld" dest=3306 scontext=root:system_r:mysqld_t
tcontext=system_u:object_r:mysqld_port_t tclass=tcp_socket
And in /var/log/mysqld.log:
050705 14:56:50 [Note] Slave SQL thread initialized, starting replication
in log 'sms-bin.000060' at position 1064950354, relay log
'./apolo-relay-bin.000088' position: 4
050705 14:56:50 [ERROR] Slave I/O thread: error connecting to master
'apolo@sms.dis.ct:3306': Error: 'Can't connect to MySQL server on
'sms.dis.ct' (13)' errno: 2003 retry-time: 60 retries: 86400
The mysqld process cannot connect to the master server, it's just not
allowed.
It's a fully updated FC4 release, but the kernel:
kernel-smp-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 -> running this one
kernel-smp-2.6.12-1.1387_FC4 -> this one make the clock run at 4 minutes
per second!!!
I've run fixfiles reload, I've mead sure all the policy files are duely
updated (no rpmnew/rpmsave left files), but I cannot solve the error.
I don't know if there's a testing package to fix it, otherwise I'll post
to the fedora-list where I have little hope of being helped :)
Thanks

Fedora Core 3 Test Update: kernel-2.6.12-1.1369_FC3
by Dave Jones
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Fedora Test Update Notification
FEDORA-2005-512
2005-07-01
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Product : Fedora Core 3
Name : kernel
Version : 2.6.12
Release : 1.1369_FC3
Summary : The Linux kernel (the core of the Linux operating system)
Description :
The kernel package contains the Linux kernel (vmlinuz), the core of any
Linux operating system. The kernel handles the basic functions
of the operating system: memory allocation, process allocation, device
input and output, etc.
This rebase to 2.6.12.2 touches a *lot* of code, so needs quite a bit
of testing before I'm comfortable to push this out as an official FC3
update. However at the same time, FC3 has been deprived of updates for
a while, so this shouldn't languish in -testing longer than necessary.
Of particular interest to look out for in this test kernel are any
SELinux/audit warnings that appear. The latest policy updates for FC3
seem to be safe from my limited testing so far, but it could be that
there's something missing that made it into the FC4 branch only.
Have fun..

Program Lockups in FC4
by Jeffrey D. Yuille
Hello,
Has anyone had any program or menu lockups in Fedora Core 4 (for
example, when you run mplayer or mplayer plug-ins and another program)
? I've had this problem when I installed FC4 on a Dell Dimension XPS
T600R Desktop but have not had this problem on either on my IBM ThinkPad
T-30 nor my Dell Inspiron 4000. Is this problem typical of some
computers/hardware setups or is this a bug? Has anyone out there had
similar problems? Any help would be appreciated.

Up2date Error
by Jeffrey D. Yuille
Hello,
I just installed Fedora Core 4 on my desktop and noticed that the
Up2date icon on the toolbar will show the check mark without indicating
whether there are updates available. I have already installed Fedora
Core 4 on my laptop as well and you can never tell whether updates are
available or not. The only way you would know for sure is when I try to
update the system through yum. Is this a bug with Up2date and if it is,
can this error be corrected? any help would be appreciated.

Fedora Core 3 Test Update: selinux-policy-targeted-1.17.30-3.16
by Daniel J Walsh
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Fedora Test Update Notification
FEDORA-2005-496
2005-06-29
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Product : Fedora Core 3
Name : selinux-policy-targeted
Version : 1.17.30
Release : 3.16
Summary : SELinux targeted policy configuration
Description :
Security-enhanced Linux is a patch of the Linux® kernel and a number
of utilities with enhanced security functionality designed to add
mandatory access controls to Linux. The Security-enhanced Linux
kernel contains new architectural components originally developed to
improve the security of the Flask operating system. These
architectural components provide general support for the enforcement
of many kinds of mandatory access control policies, including those
based on the concepts of Type Enforcement®, Role-based Access
Control, and Multi-level Security.
This package contains the SELinux example policy configuration along
with the Flask configuration information and the application
configuration files.
