Problem installing a Domu xen instance with latest FC5 kernel
by Nick
Hi,
I have searched the mailist archives, and i have not found anything that
directly addresses this issue.
I'm using a Dell 360 workstation with 1 Gig of Ram.
I have installed successfully the Domain_0 kernel 2.6.17-1.2157_FC5xen0,
upgraded all packages and restarted the box with this new kernel.
when I run xm list, it shows this domain running happily.
I have built a guest OS install tree, with the new guest Domain_u kernel
image, appropriate for this latest kernel. This tree exists on a separate
server, and not on the intended xen server.
I then type the following:
/usr/sbin/xenguest-install.py
What is the name of your virtual machine? nick
How much RAM should be allocated (in megabytes)? 256
What would you like to use as the disk (path)? /vmmachines/nick
How large would you like the disk to be (in gigabytes)? 5
What is the install location? http://xxx.xxx.8.193:8000
I have reduced the amount of memory used by Domain_0 to allow for this
256meg Guest.
I get this error message after typing in the networking details during the
install.
loader received SIGSEGV!. Backtrace:

[SECURITY] Fedora Core 5 Test Update: gnupg-1.4.5-2
by Nalin Dahyabhai
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Fedora Test Update Notification
FEDORA-2006-868
2006-08-01
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Product : Fedora Core 5
Name : gnupg
Version : 1.4.5
Release : 2
Summary : A GNU utility for secure communication and data storage.
Description :
GnuPG (GNU Privacy Guard) is a GNU utility for encrypting data and
creating digital signatures. GnuPG has advanced key management
capabilities and is compliant with the proposed OpenPGP Internet
standard described in RFC2440. Since GnuPG doesn't use any patented
algorithm, it is not compatible with any version of PGP2 (PGP2.x uses
only IDEA for symmetric-key encryption, which is patented worldwide).
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
This update upgrades GnuPG to version 1.4.5 to correct
errors in the parsing of certain types of packets. Absent
new bug reports, it will be moved from testing to final on
or around 2 August 2006.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
* Tue Aug 1 2006 Nalin Dahyabhai <nalin(a)redhat.com> - 1.4.5-2
- rebuild
- reenable curl support
* Tue Aug 1 2006 Nalin Dahyabhai <nalin(a)redhat.com> - 1.4.5-1

CVE-2006-3746)
- temporarily disable curl support again
* Fri Jul 28 2006 Nalin Dahyabhai <nalin(a)redhat.com> - 1.4.4.90-1
- update to 1.4.5rc1 to check for build problems, but mark it as 1.4.4.90
to avoid looking "newer" than the eventual 1.4.5
- because we call aclocal, buildrequire gettext-devel to get AM_GNU_GETTEXT
* Thu Jul 20 2006 Nalin Dahyabhai <nalin(a)redhat.com> - 1.4.4-7
- add BuildPrereq on curl-devel to get curl's ipv6 support (#198375)
* Wed Jul 12 2006 Nalin Dahyabhai <nalin(a)redhat.com> - 1.4.4-6
- fix a cast in gpgkeys_hkp to avoid tripping stack smashing or buffer overflow
detection (#198612)
* Wed Jul 12 2006 Jesse Keating <jkeating(a)redhat.com> - 1.4.4-5.1
- rebuild
* Wed Jul 5 2006 Nalin Dahyabhai <nalin(a)redhat.com> - 1.4.4-5
- try again using per-platform buildprereq (jkeating)
* Wed Jul 5 2006 Nalin Dahyabhai <nalin(a)redhat.com> - 1.4.4-4
- buildprereq libusb-devel, so that we get CCID support back (#197450)
* Mon Jun 26 2006 Nalin Dahyabhai <nalin(a)redhat.com> - 1.4.4-3
- rebuild
* Mon Jun 26 2006 Nalin Dahyabhai <nalin(a)redhat.com> - 1.4.4-2

Firefox is still crazy.
by Jim Bevier
I have all the updates as of today from Rawhide. For the last several days,
Firefox has not been displaying test correctly. When I open Firefox, I get
Fedora Core 5.91 release notes displayed. However, only the underlined and
bold text is displayed. If I scroll the page, all the text will appear and
looks fine. As soon as another program get focus, the text disappears
again. Clicking back on Firefox and scrolling the page will return the
text. Is this OS, Firefox, X11, or ? Any ideas? I have an X86_64 system
with NVIDIA card and use KDE.

install report 2006-07-31 - mixed results
by G.Wolfe Woodbury
The install with software selection went well.
The X server detects the primary (trident) card and configures it.
However, it does NOT detect the monitor (compaq S710) and configure
it properly; resulting in a virtual display width that does not match
the physical display width (horizontal scrolling works.)
Running X -configure from VT01 make a xorg.conf.new that is a mess
as there is a second video card in a PCI slot and it doesn't correctly
configure the trident cyberblade/i1 (mobo video). Starting X -config xorg.conf.new
results in a shakey display.
system-config-display still fails miserably.
Firstboot comes up and handles the soundcard okay. It does not exit
cleanly due to problems with the X-server.
Not sure what to file the X stuff against. skipping BZ for now.
system-config-users is working fine.
no other major regressions in what I've played with so far.
