Any progress on this front?
I recently had cause to start carting my laptop around much more
frequently than I had been up to that point (my laptop had been pretty
much a desktop system for all intents and purposes). And I quickly
found that suspend/resume was mia for Xfce. I have no idea what kind of
support exists in Xfce44 for laptop suspend/resume but I now know that
Gnome suspect/resume support (in the soon to be FC6 distro) is terrific.
Of course then I had to wrestle with Gnome and suspend/resume and a
wealth of "plugin" features but no B5 theme and no main/system context
menu vs Xfce with B5 and great menus and just a nice feel but no
suspend/resume and no plugins. It was a hard and raucous battle but
Xfce finally won out. :-) Life will sure be a lot better when plugins
are available, not to mentions suspend/resume.

how to set lower resolution in fc6t3 xorg?
by Marius Andreiana
Hi,
FC6t3's xorg.conf does't have anymore the Modes "1024x768" "800x600"...
line anymore. I've tried adding it but it doesn't recognize the option
(in Screen section).
How to set a lower resolution than the default? (don't want to use
Desktop preferences, which takes effect only after user logs in).
system-config-display offers a choice of "1024x768" or "800x600", I
guess from the commented line in xorg.conf. I removed the line but it
still doesn't change anything.
Thanks,

keyboard settings unstable in fc6t3++
by William John Murray
Hello all,
My keyboard is behaving very weirdly today. I have a UK
keyboard, with a @ near
return and a " being shift-2.
however, the effect of the buttons is reversed today.
If I look in system->Administration->Keyboard it has a list of
keyboards, and UK is currently
selected. If I click on 'UK' all is OK again - the keyboard instantly
operates correctly. Then a while
later, not sure how long (maybe logout??) it goes wrong.
I update frequently, but I have no idea which rpm may have caused
this. I know it doesn't
come ne into the usual class of 'fc6 blockers' but it seems pretty
serious to me...

automount and NIS maps
by Orion Poplawski
Has anyone gotten automount to work with NIS maps in FC6T3+, or am I
just being brain dead? Are there release notes about changes? My old
FC5 configuration does not work....

Fedora Artwork = Staring Into The Ether
by Benjy Grogan
Hello,
I don't normally criticize art. I understand that a lot of work goes
into it and it's a mysterious process that takes a lot of guesswork
but I'm completely baffled by the choice of artwork in FC6T3 so I must
criticize. It's so dark that you can't see the highlights in grub,
and you can hardly see where those spirals begin and end. You're left
staring into an ether, wondering where the cathode ray is right now.
It's depressing. Ubuntu and OpenSuse, and FC5 have joyous themes.
What happened?

Help with RPM rebuilddb
by Oldman
Hello all
After updating this morning, I checked the availability of orca with
a yum list updates. For some reason Yum hung and 1/2 hour later it was
still running with no progress being reported at the terminal.
I was able to kill the process (holding my breath and crossing the
fingers) by logging in as root at a tty and issuing the appropriate
commands. Thought I was good to go until I performed the yum update of
orca and though it did update, it immediately gave me 10 pages of
garbage on the screen, followed by some error messages:
rpmdb: PANIC: fatal region error detected; run recovery
error: db4 error(-30977) from db->sync: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run
database recovery
I attempted to `rpm --rebuilddb` but received:
rpmdb: PANIC: fatal region error detected; run recovery
error: db4 error(-30977) from dbenv->open: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error,
run database recovery
error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - (-30977)
I got similar errors with --initdb (as expected, but I had to try)
I googled the error messages and got (as expected) a similar account
on suse, but the suggestions offered, included the use of commands I am
unfamiliar with.
Any ideas of a safe way to get rpm and yum working again?

Suspend works in 2.6.18 but sound fails at resume.
by Stanton P. McIntosh
I am running FC6T3 with the following response to uname -a
Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.18-1.2689.fc6 #1 SMP Thu Sep 21 21:04:11 EDT
2006 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux. Suspend did not work under 2.6.17 on my
machine. In fact it required messy reboots that caused BIOS problems. I'm
happy that Suspend works under 2.6.18 as well as it does. When I resume from
suspend I have no sound. A simple reboot cures the problem.
I would prefer that the suspend option on the menus at "f" would require a
yes or no or that it be put under shutdown along with
hibernate/restart/cancel/shutdown. Occasionally I accidentally click it when
I'm trying to move up the menu tree. If that would not be agreeable, I would
like a menu option to disable/remove it from the menu. I don't suspend my
computer as it runs FAH (fold at home) from the time it starts in the
morning until it is shutdown in the evening.

yum access to fc6 mirror sites
by glenn
Is there a solution to the yum access of mirror sites for FC6.
Currently only the Ibiblio site is accessed. That site is very out of
date, and if it has anything you are trying to fetch, it is trottle at
abt 17 KB/s (only slightly faster than dialup).
I keep seeing the buildsys reports that show new pkgs updates have been
generated, but when Ibiblio does not update, those updates are not
available to testor like myself.
Is this a problem with some update to yum, OR is the mirror support
system mucked up. I used to find yum would try to work with numerous
alternative mirror sites.
