GNOME desktop confused by RAID-1 volume
by Michael Schwendt
Recently, I've noticed that after logging in, a RAID-1 volume is
displayed two times. The same two hdd icons, the same Name, the same
"Properties" are displayed.
When I choose "Unmount Volume" via the context menu, the second icon
stays on the desktop. All its details in the properties dialog change
to "Volume: home", and indeed the details for my /home partition are
displayed. The "Name" is wrong though, as it's still the size of the
RAID-1 volume. When I want to unmount the volume (just as a test) I'm
asked "Do you want to empty the trash before you umount?" and the
dialog explains what that would yield. If I choose not to empty the
trash and proceed, there is an error dialog "Cannot unmount volume -
The volume is not mounted" (sure, it's /home). When I mount the RAID-1
volume again, both desktop icons refer to it again.
Some desktop component gets confused.

Bugzilla 'version' changes for Fedora this Friday!
by Will Woods
Hi folks!
To help make Bugzilla easier to use and understand, we're going to make
two changes to the 'version' field:
1) Stop using the fNtestX versions, and
2) Rename "devel" to "rawhide".
We're doing this because of two facts about Fedora development:
First, test releases are just rawhide snapshots, so they shouldn't be
tracked as their own special versions. Second, everyone calls the
development tree "Rawhide", so Bugzilla should reflect that.
So here's what's happening. This Friday, all bugs filed against Test
versions of Fedora will be moved to the corresponding final release -
for example, fc6test2 bugs will be moved to fc6. The testX versions will
then be removed from the version list in Bugzilla. Finally we'll rename
"devel" to "rawhide".
NOTE: this MAY BREAK scripts or links that used "devel". If you have any
such scripts, make sure you update them as soon as possible!
Thanks!

I don't have any contents in /opt {no flash/reader installed}.
Error is similar to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=238642 ,
but that was a fight between context provide by se-p-t and a third-party
repo package. That doesn't seem to fit on my machine.
Or maybe like:

Booting problem with latest rawhide
by Jim Bevier
Hi all,
Since last week I have had a problem booting rawhide. It is an X86_64 AMD
X2 system. If I just let it boot to Run Level 5, it locks up with tons of
messages saying it can not create fines on root because the file system is
mounted read-only. I have to reboot by using the "reset button". If I boot
to level 1 (single user) I still get lots of message about root being read
only. Doing a "mount" list root as being mounted as read-write. Scrolling
backward in the messages, there is a line saying root is mounted r/w. But,
if I try to do "touch /tmp/xx", touch gives error saying file system is read
only????
So as a work around, I boot to level 1 and get the shell prompt. I then
type "mount -o remount,rw /" which remounts root as read/write. I then do
an "init 3" and log in as root. Then an "init 5" and viola, the system
starts. I can not do an "init 5" directly from the single user mode. So
what is broke? I did a fedora 8 x86_64 live install, and then updated to
rawhide. Can someone help?

by Antonio Olivares
Dear all,
kernel 2.6.24-0.55.rc3.git3.fc9 does not boot like others have reported,
* hangs at checking if image is initramfs... *
removing it via yum removes other packages,

updates-testing notification changes
by Luke Macken
As decided during last weeks QA meeting[0], bodhi will no longer spam
fedora-test-list with updates-testing notifications.
Bodhi now has RSS feeds that support querying updates using any combination
of release, status, or type:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/rss/rss2.0?status={pending,testin...
If you want to see a list of updates-testing packages that you have
installed on your local system, install the bodhi-client[1] package and run
`bodhi --testable`. From here, your testing feedback is encouraged and
will help ensure that we don't push any broken packages out to our users.
I also added support for anonymous access and feedback, so discussions about
test updates can now be held inside of bodhi. At the moment, anonymous
feedback is able to effect an updates karma. This is subject to
changing in the future, so if anyone notices this feature getting
abused, please let me know.

Fedora 8 Bug Day - Monday, Dec. 3!
by Will Woods
Hi!
This Monday, December 8, we'll be holding a Fedora Bug Day. Basically
this is where we try to get a whole bunch of people together to triage
bugs so we can make sure problems don't get neglected and the developers
don't go crazy and drown under a sea of bug reports.
For more info on Bug Triage, start here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers
I want to concentrate on Fedora 8 bugs - there are already 737 bugs
filed against Fedora 8 that are still listed as NEW. Yow! That's too
many bugs for Bugzilla to handle as a simple bug list, but here's a link
for Fedora 8 bugs from the past 7 days: http://rdr.to/gc
I'll be in #fedora-qa all day Monday along with other bug triagers in
various locales. I'm going to focus on bugs involving PulseAudio, but if
you'd like to work on other things that's great!
If you've got a bug that hasn't been touched yet, or you want to help us
sort out what needs work in Fedora 8, come by #fedora-qa on Monday!
