Fedora Test Update Notification
FEDORA-2007-1860

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name : libsmbios
Product : Fedora 7
Version : 0.13.10
Release : 1.fc7
Summary : Open BIOS parsing libs
Description :
Libsmbios is a library and utilities that can be used by client programs
to get information from standard BIOS tables, such as the SMBIOS table.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
fix a problem with bios updates. New check was added that is incorrectly failing on some systems. this check has been removed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ChangeLog:
* Tue Aug 28 2007 Michael E Brown <michael_e_brown at dell.com> - 0.13.10-1
- Fix one instance where return code to fread was incorrectly checked.
* Wed Aug 22 2007 Michael E Brown <michael_e_brown at dell.com> - 0.13.9
- Fix a couple of failure-to-check-return on fread. most were unit-test code
only, but two or three were in regular code.
- Add hinting to the memory class, so that it can intelligently close /dev/mem
file handle when it is not needed (which is most of the time). it only
leaves it open when it is scanning, so speed is not impacted.
* Mon Aug 6 2007 Michael E Brown <michael_e_brown at dell.com> - 0.13.8
- new upstream

bugzilla laags
by Adam Pribyl
It happens to me already several days, that when loading any bug web page
from bugzilla.redhat.com it loads the page header until somewhere around
line "Component", then it stalls, loads CPU for 100% and takes sevel
minutes to finish the page load, while FF or SM is completely frozen. On
slow machines its almost impossible to load any bug page. This happens
from different machines and different computers, so I'll be interested in
what's going on, because bugzilla is almost unusable.

Fedora 7 Test Update: yum-3.2.3-1.fc7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fedora Test Update Notification
FEDORA-2007-1753
2007-08-23 22:34:06.879907
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name : yum
Product : Fedora 7
Version : 3.2.3
Release : 1.fc7
Summary : RPM installer/updater
Description :
Yum is a utility that can check for and automatically download and
install updated RPM packages. Dependencies are obtained and downloaded
automatically prompting the user as necessary.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
- If you're using rpm versions from Fedora Rawhide you should now be able to ctrl-c mostly-properly! Thanks to Panu for this.
- If you find a transaction aborted before it finished (or your computer went off or whatever) go to /var/lib/yum and compare the
transaction-all.timestamp file with the transaction-done.timestamp file.
The things remaining in transaction-all that aren't in transaction-done are what is left to do.
- If you're confused by -e and -d as debug and error log levels you'll be happy to see --verbose and --quiet.
- A bunch of plugins which exclude pkgs should be much faster now.
- If there is something else holding the yum lock file, yum will wait and try again.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Firefox performance sucks!
by Rodd Clarkson
Right,
For some time now, the speed with which firefox starts to load pages can
be aweful. I've not been sure where the problem lay until I got vmware
reworking this afternoon and I'm now sure it's firefox.
Sometimes the speed is fine, but other times it seems to take forever to
start loading.
Firefox in Windows in VMWare loads pages really fast. In fact, I loaded
www.ebay.com.au in FF/Win and then in FF/Lin. FF/Win was fine, but
while FF/Lin was still loading I went back and reloaded the page in
FF/Win and it had finished it before FF/Lin had even started loading the
page.
This is subjective, but it's not hard to observe from where I sit.
Given that FF/Win uses the Win network layer and then my Lin network
layer and it's performance is fine, I would expect FF/Lin to perform as
well, but it simply isn't a match.
Is FF/Lin inferior to FF/Win or is there something wrong with it that is
making this happen?
R.
