My WEP password has 5 characters which nm-applet doesn't accept
by Yuan Yijun
Hi,
My wifi uses WEP and the password is like this "C1111". I can select
the network in the nm-applet list, but in the following dialog that
prompts for password, the OK button is grey for password of that
length. That button turns available if I entered 10 characters or
something around 30, I don't know.
Could anyone help me? Thanks! I am running the latest rawhide.

A lot of selinux execstack denials in rawhide when starting audio apps
by Martin Sourada
Hi,
I enabled SELinux for the first time and I got a lot of execstack
denials when starting applications providing audio output (so far I got
it with listen, rhythmbox, totem and gxine). I have new clean install
from latest rawhide live (plus some additional applications). Are these
worth filling bugs or are they false positives? I attach an output from
this denial for listen music player. I didn't do any actions to fix
these denials and the applications seem to work OK. I have SELinux
policy set to enforcing. If you need more info, ask. Not sure whether
this is for test or devel list so CC-ing devel.
Thanks,
Martin

What determines which volume control is used by default?
by Michel Salim
I'm asking this, because on my Thinkpad T61 running Rawhide, the mixer
applet by default controls the microphone input volume, rather than
PCM.
That can be fixed easily. Harder to fix is which volume is adjusted
when the keys set in Keyboard Shortcuts to control volume are pressed.
They still adjust the microphone volume!
I'm guessing the problem is a bit deeper than at the GNOME level.
Somewhere in the ALSA stack, perhaps?
Thanks,

rawhide i386 live image available
by Jeremy Katz
A new rawhide-based live image is now available for testing. The only
image available right now is the i386 desktop (GNOME) image, mostly as a
matter of concentrating some testing. The image is based on today's
rawhide plus newer NetworkManager and selinux-policy which should land
in tomorrow's rawhide.
One of the biggest focuses of this image is to get some eyes on the new
NetworkManager version which we're landing for Fedora 8. As this wasn't
ready in time for test2, we're hoping to get some quick testing to help
ensure that it works very well for test3 and not lead to a lot of people
being entirely unable to try things out as test3.
So head on over and download it from the torrent at
http://torrent.fedoraproject.org/torrents//rawhide-i386-Live-20070925.tor...
Happy testing!

f8t2 glabels text addition not displaying properly
by Gerry Tool
When I try to add text to a label, the text displays only partially,
and when I try to move it, the display smears into an unreadable mess.
Anyone else confirm? I'll file a bug report if it is confirmed.

Wrong LVM VG Acticated
by Doncho N. Gunchev
I installed FC8 to and external USB disk for tests. This disk
has /boot, small fat16, big ext3 storage and a LVM VG with one
LV for my / dir. In order to boot after the install (live KDE
CD) I made new initrd:
mkinitrd --preload=ehci-hcd --preload=usb-storage \
--preload=scsi_mod --preload=sd_mod \
/boot/initrd-2.6.23-0.164.rc5.fc8.img 2.6.23-0.164.rc5.fc8
With the update for kernel-2.6.23-0.204.rc8.fc8 all went well,
I did not have to make new initrd. After that I removed my
swap from that drive and extended my f8 root dir and added
my old swap (fc7) to /etc/fstab.
The new swap is on another LVM VG and when I updated to
kernel-2.6.23-0.211.rc8.git2.fc8 and mkinitrd-6.0.19-1.fc8
from rawhide it did not boot. I did mkinitrd but that did
not help - can't find /dev/root. Turns out mkinitrd
activates only the VG which contains my swap, but
not the one that contains my root directory. Here's
small diff from initrd's init files:
...
echo Activating logical volumes
-lvm vgchange -ay --ignorelockingfailure VGusb
-resume /dev/VGusb/LVuswap
+lvm vgchange -ay --ignorelockingfailure VG700l
+resume /dev/VG700l/e5swap
echo Creating root device.
...
It seems logical that both VGs should be activated in
my case - the first one for the root FS and the second
one for the swap (in case I suspended to disk).
Anyone else, should I bugzilla this?
