After updates, won't boot past the word "grub" with F9
by Arch Willingham
After the updates that have come out, Friday though yesterday, I finally did a reboot. Whe4n it boots, the word "grub" pops up on the screen and that's as far as it goes. I assume its toast but what caused it? I can't say what the updates are since the laptop is now dead as my grandmother.
Thanks,
Arch

preupdate failure
by Neal Becker
After running without complaint, reboot into rawhide install.
It tries to download kdelibs-devel-xxx. That doesn't work - no surpise -
since it didn't activate any net interfaces.

F9beta update takes forever
by John Summerfield
Or seemingly.
A while ago I asserted that yum's performance is glacial, in the face of
claims it was much improved.
yum might not be the problem. Here is some evidence. My update of 184
packages on an otherwise unloaded HP DC7700 SFF ran from 17:58 to 20:07,
a little over two hours. Presumably those are actual install times we're
looking at, not time retrieving them across my (wireless) LAN.

Here is my yum.conf: despite the debug level, the information that might
be helpful in tuning yum is written only to the console where it scrolls
off and is lost; it's not, AFAIK, recorded anywhere safe.

I would expect a fresh install to go faster than this.

keyboard not detected, yum groups missing
by Adam Pribyl
As there is still not yet a pre-release build and time is getting short I
tried to install rawhide from 13.Apr with boot.iso over network.
This is HP Pavilion with Athlon 64 X2 CPU, but I tried to install i386. I
was not able to get with installation past first dialog, because PS2
keyboard is always lost. This was true for both i386 graphical and i386
textmode install.
Then I tried x86_64 version - this one looses keyboard after GUI is
started. The only way to install was x86_64 textmode.
After install keyboard and mouse works.. but to get past install was
pretty tricky - this was "failover" method...
After default netinstall I tried to add KDE group. yum grouplist lists the
KDE (K Desktop Environment) isw listed twice as available group, but you
can not install it
# yum groupinstall 'KDE (K Desktop Environment)'
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
Setting up Group Process
No packages in any requested group available to install or update

Rhythmbox
by Antonio M
I am experiencing small breakages when I listen to radio (for example
http://www.radioswisspop.ch/live/mp3.m3u) and after some time that Rhythmbox
is started. This happens since a while, but I cannot say what update causes
this behaviour.
I see the buffer line showing that buffer is empty and is refilled.Maybe
that is connected to some gstreamer-plugin (part from Fedora and part from
livna).
And I am experiencing this behaviour on one of my systems that is playing on
Intel 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 audio controller with snd-intel8x0
driver and Alsa driver 1.0.16-3.fc9.i386
Any idea???

keyboard shift stopped working - old kernel, vmware
by Development discussions related to Fedora
I have had an experience where the shift key stops working. It also
affects the shift lock, and makes it impossible to enter a shifted password.
Machine: hp compaq nx6320 notebook.
F8>F9beta>rawhide
booting kernel-2.6.24 from F8 so that vmware-server works.
keyboard shift stops working in both vmware guest {xp} and in the host.
Is this machine just special ? Speak up if you have seen this before :)

NetworkManager-Openvpn: Broken`?
by Roger Grosswiler
I installed FC9 Preview by yesterday. On the first sight, it seems, that there is still
plenty to do.
- PackageKit takes forever when installing new software, especially if it has to wait
for the end of an update und my powerful p2/300mhz box ;) (OT, separate thread)
- Yum in shell is even quicker, so i installed NetworkManager-Openvpn yesterday:
= it is not working, trying to install an openvpn connection ends up giving the
error-message, that the vpn-software hasn't been found.
Is it a bug? still in progress, perhaps i searched wrong on bugzilla, but i did not find
anything.
