inittab -- Where'd all my consoles go?
by Janina Sajka
I've successfully upgraded two machines from F-8 to the F-9 beta. A diff
against my old /etc/inittab indicates Anaconda didn't touch that file,
but my 24 consoles are no longer available? How do I get them back? I
really do use them all and feel massively cramped with the default set.
Is this now managed elsewhere? Upstart, perhaps? If so, what file do I edit to get additional consoles? And, is there a new equiv of 'init q' ?

hwbrowser not showing DASD
by Clyde E. Kunkel
Hi, I just noticed that my drives are no longer showing up in hwbrowser
when I select hard drives.
Anyone else seeing this? I didn't see a bz and will enter one if others
seeing the same thing. This is on current rawhide x86 system, SATA and
IDE drives, no selinux.

mouse not working in firstboot?
by Jon Stanley
Has anyone else seen this? Most of my installs skip firstboot, but
the few that I've done that don't over the last few days have had a
non-functioning mouse. After completing firstboot and going into X,
though, the mouse works. This is on VMWare Server. I haven't yet
filed a bug since I'm not sure what to file one against.

compiz question: LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT, --indirect-rendering, intel graphics ....
by Tom London
I'm running latest Rawhide on Thinkpad X60 (Intel 945) with compiz.
To get compiz working, I had been setting LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 in
my .bash_profile (yeah, I know this is a sledgehammer). Without it, I
just get a very boring "white screen".
But I noticed that compiz has a '--indirect-rendering' option, and
that other programs (like glxgears, openuniverse, ...) seem to work
just fine with direct rendering enabled.
So I removed 'LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1' from my .bash_profile and added
'--indirect-rendering' to compiz lines in .gnome2/session.
All seems to work this way, and glxgears works significantly faster
and openuniverse finally works.
So the question: is this the right way to have this setup? I looked in
gconf settings and compiz-config for this setting, but didn't find it.
Is there a 'compiz quirks file' somewhere?]
Thanks in advance,
tom

re: mouse not working in firstboot?
by Gianluca Cecchi
Same for me with yesterday rawhide and qemu-kvm.
I thought it was a casuality...
I did a reset of the vm and with the new boot all was ok.....

No KDE 3.5.x in F9?
by Scott Beamer
The "other guys" (i.e. Mandriva, openSUSE & Ubuntu) also have KDE 4 in
their beta, but they also have the more stable (and useable) KDE 3 as
well.
KDE 4 looks great, but it beyond buggy (I've tried it in all of the above
distros). Fedora is no exception. I was using it yesterday and it's a
disaster. You could spend all day filing bug reports. :)
So why not have KDE 3 also? KDE 4 is not really useable as of yet.

I've been doing some testing with the Intel G35 chipset on F9 and so far
3d support has been pretty much been a big disappointment.

glxgears works -- yea!
Anything I can do to help this issue? Rather frustrating since the intel
driver is the open source driver everyone recommends.
