If I issue the command :
rpm -qa gstreamer*

gstreamer-0.10.19-1.fc9.i386
gstreamer-plugins-farsight-0.12.6-1.fc9.i386
list of gstreamer packages..
But on another system
rpm -qa gstreamer*
gstreamer-0.10.19-1.fc9.i386
I get only gstreamer listed (and where are all the other Rpm's, that I
am sure they are installed as I issue
rpm -qa gstreamer-plugin* I get the list of all plugins'
rpm -qa rpm
rpm-4.4.2.3-2.fc9.i386 on both system.
And the same command yesterday listed all gstreamer packages!!!
Any help??? Tnx

Samba issues on F9 (pre)
by Jim Bevier
I have rawhide installed on a dual boot system with Fedora 8. F8 is running
version 3.0.28a of Samba just fine. F9 is running 3.2.0-1.pre2.8. I am
able to access F9 fine from a FC7 system. I am not able to access it from
any Windows system. I get the error:
\\Nugget is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have access permission.
The parameter is incorrect.
I don't know what parameter is incorrect. I have the firewall off on
Windows and F9, and still no go. The two client commands were addedHere is

NetworkManager Applet
by Christopher L Tubbs II
NetworkManager has had a LOT of great improvements lately. In
particular: VPN support, a connection editor, and more intelligent
WPA/WPA2 Enterprise configuration. I even noticed that it no longer asks
me to enter that damned keychain password over and over again
out-of-the-box in F9 pre-release!
However, one feature I was really looking forward to, that does not seem
to be in the F9 pre-release is an option in the applet to manually
rescan for wireless networks. Sometimes (for whatever reason), my router
is not seen during the first scan, and I have to restart the service to
rescan for it. Would be nice to have a manual rescan in the menu of the
applet.
One other thing I noticed was that occasionally (rarely), nm-applet asks
me for my WPA2 password right after login, even though it is saved.
Rather than typing in my password, I hit cancel, and select my network
from the dropdown list, which it connects to perfectly fine (without
password request). The only thing I can assume is happening is that in
these circumstances, NetworkManager is trying to connect to the network
too soon after login, and wherever the password is stored is not yet
unlocked.

I am unable to figure out how to queue up updates. that
should be the default in any case.
From an End User Perspective there should be a section
on the panel that prints out the status of updates as they occur.
More or less as Yum Displays the output as each package is installed.
There should be a section on the panel that lists the queue of
packages being removed, updated or installed.

Well, its not granular enough; I should be
able to choose what I want to see at the
package level, not the category, perhaps
with radial buttons.
I also should be able to pick multiple categories
rather than one at a time; again perhaps
with radial buttons. Radial Button Examples
for Categories might be:
o List this Category
o Do not list this category
o Installed Packages
o Available Packages
o All Packages
And then at the Package Level the same three
radial buttons that would override the category
choice. Also there should be additional radial
buttons indicating whether or not a given
package should be:
o Ignore Package [Default]
o Update Package
o Install Package
o Remove Package

I see no reason why this is necessary. The combination
of the YUM Return Codes and a section of the panel
that lists events should be enough. Also, there could
be additional Status Buttons along side each Package
in the list of queued packages indicating what happens
as the packages are processed. The same would be true
for prerequisite packages that should be listed in the
queue of packages to be processed as they are processed.

Missing WAV decoder
by Christopher L Tubbs II
Why does the pre-release Fedora 9 not have a simple WAV decoder? I can't
even play simple PCM files with totem (or any other media player, except
command-line 'play')

As far as I'm concerned, yumex does everything I need.
Why all the complicated (and broken) package managers that are nothing
more than difficult to use yum wrappers?
The new packagekit stuff looks interesting, but it's obviously broken,
difficult to configure, and even more difficult to turn off.
Rainman
Actually I think your perspective is probably from the
point of view of a sophisticated user. I think that as
Linux is used more and more by casual users, I am in
the process of migrating all my children and grand children's
PC's to Linux, they need an easy to use powerful
package manager. So from my perspective whoever is
working on this Package Manager has not thought through
where they want to be down the road and developed a
path to get there; what I see is quite poorly done.

Where is diskboot.img?
by Kazutoshi Morioka
Was the diskboot.img gone?
If so, what is the replacement for diskboot.img?
Almost all PCs can't boot from efidisk.img.

Swallow an app in gnome panel?
by Reid Rivenburgh
Hi. I currently have two gnome panels; a vertical one on the right,
and a short one along the bottom. I use the one on the right for my
pager, window list, and miscellaneous utilities like meters and clock.
I currently have the system monitor applet in there, which works
well, but I'm partial to gkrellm. Is there a way in gnome to tell it
to add the full gkrellm window in the panel? Not a button to launch
gkrellm or something like that, but gkrellm itself. I had a similar
setup in KDE 3.5.
Thanks, reid
