Sound is completely broken after today's updates
by Antonio M
I applied today's updates (pulseaudio...and so on) and now my system
are mute!!!! this system has always played fine (and now I don't have
sound also in system-config-audio, with driver
snd-intelx0.
Really surprised and annoyed.....I suppose that now I will hear that
this is rawhide, baby....just for my information, are the packagers
applying any update to their system before issuing updates???
A long way to Alfa...

Sleepy X after today's rawhide update
by Andrew Parker
After today's updates, I find that if I don't press a key or move the
mouse for 2-5 seconds then the display freezes until I generate some
input.
Its rather like a ^S for X. Its not that the display doesn't get
updated, the processes generating output get held up, then continue as
soon as I generate input.
This happens immediately on login, so the login never completes unless
I waggle the mouse.
Curiously, a screensaver that I tried doesn't suffer from the same problem.
This is on a Dell Inspiron 1410 laptop which has the following display adapter:
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)

Rawhide Installs
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
The install experience here seems to depend on the method used.
Pxeboot/NFS install failed looking for the repomd file
Http install from mirrors.cat.pdx.edu was quadratic but eventually
succeeded. add/remove software fails because it does not have
authorization, just as it does on Fedora 9.
boot.iso/NFS install on an AMD 64 box now works. Add/remove
software fails because it can't find a repomd file it wants.
BTW how can one specify ext4 with a pxeboot install?

Version of Postfix in Fedora not kept up to date
by kvantanet@seznam.cz
Why is always Postfix a couple of versions behind?
The latest version of Postfix is now 2.5.5 and F10 includes only 2.5.1. (Released 2008-02-17)
Other distros like Debian always updates this package.
Fedora never updates this package after release.
Does this mean the we don't need to address the issues corrected in new versions of Postfix?
E.G. Latest 2 issues

Security: some systems have changed their link() semantics,
and will hardlink a symlink, contrary to POSIX and XPG4.
Sebastian Krahmer, SuSE. File: util/safe_open.c.
The solution introduces the following incompatible change:
when the target of mail delivery is a symlink, the parent
directory of that symlink must now be writable by root only
(in addition to the already existing requirement that the
symlink itself is owned by root). This change will break
legitimate configurations that deliver mail to a symbolic
link in a directory with less restrictive permissions.
20080826
Bugfix (introduced Postfix 2.4): epoll file descriptor leak.
With Postfix >= 2.4 on Linux >= 2.6, Postfix has an epoll
file descriptor leak when it executes non-Postfix commands
in, for example, user-controlled $HOME/.forward files. A
local user can access a leaked epoll file descriptor to
implement a denial of service attack on Postfix. Data
confidentiality and integrity are not affected. File:
util/events.c.

Fedora 10 (Rawhide) missing pand - UPDATED
by Andrew Kenton Mitchell
I sent a message asking for advice/help yesterday. Sorry if I'm
burdening anybody's in box, however, I have more info and I wanted to share.
The rawhide bluez-utils package seems to be missing /usr/bin/pand.
I tried to add the --enable-pand witch and rebuild the RPM from sources
however, bluez-utils-3.36-2.fc10.src.rpm doesn't seem to want to extract
on my system.
I dug around to see if pand was provided by a differing package:
# yum whatprovides */pand
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
bluez-utils-3.36-2.fc10.i386 : Bluetooth utilities
Matched from:
Filename : /etc/rc.d/init.d/pand
Filename : /etc/sysconfig/pand
bluez-utils-3.36-2.fc10.i386 : Bluetooth utilities
Matched from:
Filename : /etc/rc.d/init.d/pand
Filename : /etc/sysconfig/pand
Then I decided to try a bluez-utils reinstall:
]# yum install bluez-utils
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit

The init script error surprised me. Does anybody know if this is a just
a bug. Is pand being depreciated? If so, what is the replacement?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Can anybody suggest a fix or alternative?
