X won't take keyboard or mouse input
by David Mack
For the last week or so, I've been running into a problem where X
ceases to accept keyboard or mouse button input (but the pointer still
moves normally). In Xorg.0.log, I keep getting this:
[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.
[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.
[mi] mieqEnequeue: out-of-order valuator event; dropping.
Does not look encouraging. Advice?

F10Alpha- Kernels deleted wrongly, left with just a dud.
by John Summerfield
atm I cannot boot the system in question.
At some point, having had the system running for a week or two and
applied lotsa updates, I discovered the kernel I booted was no longer
installed. (Evil, Debian does not do that).
Quick workaround, reboot.
I discovered that, contrary to my belief about how many kernels I should
have, there was in fact only one (this system was originally installed
about f8alpha or beta), and I had a period where there was a succession
of dud kernels so I configured yum to preserve lots (and then rpm
--erased --justdb for good measure).
Having one kernel would not be a serious problem but for the fact it
does not get past the initrd, as far as I can see. There's a message
about creating /dev nodes (or some such) and the system proceeds no
further. Booting with "init=/bin/bash" does not get any further.
System hardware: HP DC7700 Intel vPro E6300 CPU etc etc.
I'm not in a position to give much info on this atm as it doesn't boot.

No control in frequency selector - intentional or a big mistake
by Jim Cornette
Being that I sometimes prefer to slow down the frequency when a program
maxes out my CPU speed, I use the frequency selector frequently.
Where did it go?
How can I get it back?
Is there another "on the fly applet that now performs this valuable
function?
Basically, who cares if the frequency is maxed out unless you can also
change the frequency of the CPU.

sys-admin-add/remove software still doesn't work
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
Running from a regular user, it complains about authorization
instead of asking for root's password. It refuses to run from root.
This is how it (doesn't) work on Fedora 9.

Rawhide Pxeboot Install
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
Finally success with a pxeboot install of 64 Rawhide from a 64 bit
Fedora 9 server. The Rawhide I rsync'ed Tuesday afternoon
finally worked. Installation seemed slower than usual, but this
is subjective.
The Fedora howto needs to be modified to work
(see text attachment).

Non X console removal
by Keith Roberts
Hi all. Is this really necessary to remove the option of
consoles in text-mode?
I find it really handy to be able to fireup more than one
console in non X mode when doing a fresh Fedora
installation.
Kind Regards,
Keith Roberts

f9, f10alpha kernels under virtualpc
by John Summerfield
I tried to boot the F10alpha 386 boot.iso (from os/images) and an f9
netinstall.iso (or vice versa, I'm easily confused) under Microsoft's
Virtual PC on Windows XP.
CentOS5 and various Debian/Ubuntu variations work fine.
I get a popup to then effect
"An unrecoverable processor error has been encountered"
"The virtual system will reset now."
and a "reset" button for me to click when I've read the message.
There's nothing in the event Applications event log.
The F9 kernel's last message is, "SMP Alternatives: switching to UP
mode." and F10A goes one further, "debug: unmapping init memory c07d5000
c07d8000"
This the same DC7700 I mentioned a few minutes ago, and hardware
virtualisation is enabled.
I'm going to look for a virtualPC update, in the meantime, does anyone
have any clues?
