Bose USB audio problems
by Richard Ryniker
No joy when I plugged a Bose Corporation Companion 5 USB sound system
into an up-to-date (27Oct2009) Rawhide machine. Perhaps there are
essential pieces missing because this was a Live system installed to
disk, not a full F12 installation from DVD. This sound system works when
connected to a Fedora 11 machine, although I feel it is definitely less
stable recently than early in the life of F11.
Can someone say they have this type of USB audio output working with F12,
and thus suggest it is an installation/configuration issue instead of
something actually broken?
/var/log/messages has this to say (full log is at http://ryniker.ods.org/errors/eee_log2):

Quick reminder: blocker bug meeting tomorrow
by Adam Williamson
Just to quickly remind everyone that the (possibly final) blocker bug
meeting is tomorrow at 15:00 UTC in #fedora-bugzappers. If you have any
bugs to nominate for blocker status, or want to take part in the
discussion on the ones already on the list - be there!

Hi,
I installed and tested F12 beta (and later updated to rawhide).

2. Dailymotion videos are terribly slow -- look like a slideshow (2fps?)
Whole system slows down to a crawl when playing video (HTML5 tag, not

3. Anaconda/First boot -- sees the screen size as if it was total of two
displays but uses only one of them (b -- see hardware above), hence the
some information and buttons are invisible (displayed off screen). I can
provide photos of what it looks like.
4. KDE: Display settings: change display resolution works incorrectly --
can´t move screen position vs. the other screen. I changed screen (a)
from 1280x1024 -> 1600x1200 and got screen overlap -- whatever is
displayed in the middle, is showing up "partial clone" on both screens.
5. KDE: Colors are all over the place -- parts of UI change colors as
they please: to purple, green, blue, black, etc. without reason. Random
"destruction" patterns show up on UI elements.
6. KDE: Lancelot -> Switch user gives an error: "Lancelot can not find
your display manager. This mean that it not able to retrieve the list of
currently running sessions, or start a new one." (there is also missing
"is" in this error message: "that it [is] not able"). Note: I see the
same in Fedora 11.
7. KDE: kpackagekit can´t import repo keys, even after entering root
password.
8. glxgears works but with horizontal lines of random rubbish. I havent
tried mesa-dri-drivers-experimental yet...
9. Pulseaudio generally works -- I'm happy that digital optical out
works! Pavucontrol (not installed by default?) crashes when I choose
"Pulseaudio server" in KDE multimedia settings.
Should I BZ any of the above?

Have an issue you'd like to propose as an F12 release blocker? Please
consider the following criteria when escalating an issue:
* Can this issue be fixed with a future update or is it part of
the critical path? [2]
* Is this defect a high (or greater) severity [3] with no, or an
unreasonable, workaround?
* Is this an embarrassing bug affecting a large number of users?
Come join the fun!

2009-10-22 - Power Management Test Day report
by Phil Knirsch
Here a short report from the Power Management Fedora Test day on
10/22/09 [1]. First of all many thanks to all the people who
participated in it and who reported their findings. In order to make
things easier for testers and to make sure we get a lot more stable and
comparable results Marcela Maslanova, Jan Vcelak and Petr Lautrbach put
together a rpm that consisted of all our test scripts, an easy
call-script to easily run them and a "collect" script to pack together
all results. Additionally the rpm itself has requirements against all
the packages we needed for the tests, so a simple installation of the
testday rpm provided a solid and easy method for every tester. This
worked out really well and made test results very consistent.
Unfortunately time ran out for including the automatic upload script
from Mike McGrath and the ALPM test script, but that didn't seem to pose
a big problem, roughly half of the testers provided results for ALPM as
well.
We got 30 results overall with half of them including ALPM test results,
too. Overall the results showed us what we wanted to know:
- The tools we're shipping are working as expected, no crashes or
anything like that observed
- Wakeups and system behavior in genereral in comparison to our Fedora
11 test day doesn't show any regressions
- New features seem to be working as expected
Rudolf Kastel discovered one strange bug with one of the profiles which
we couldn't reproduce yet, but we're still investigating with him.
All in all the whole test day was a real success. Especially the great
idea of Marcela, Jan and Petr to make a rpm for the testday which
automated a lot of the work that needed to be done.
For the next testday we already plan to expand that idea and include the
automated upload script which will make it even easier for the testers.

[Announcement]Bug Triage Event 2009-10-30 @ 1600-2000 UTC (1200-1600 hours EDT)
by TK009
When: Friday, 2009-10-30 @ 16:00-20:00 UTC (1200-1600 hours EDT)
Where: #fedora-qa on irc.freenode.net
F-12 Blocker Meeting may still be in session (more than likely) in
#fedora-bugzappers, so we will be gathering in #fedora-qa.
The Bug Zappers will be holding a bug triage event this Friday (tomorrow) and
would like to invite any and all that are interested in lending a hand to join
us.
Our goal for this event is to review and triage Fedora 10 bug reports still in
the status of 'NEW' with the aim of confirming and re-versioning or closing
where appropriate. This is an effort to put 'eyes' on these reports before EOL
(End Of Life) changes close them.
whether your just curious about the triage process or have questions and would
like to learn more. This is an opportunity to do so.
Maybe you like help filing a bug report? We're happy to help.
Everyone is welcome!
I hope to see you there

Please refrain from

you change the Subject line. Quoting the entire contents of the digest
right back at the list just makes it worse.

Audio CDs, Bug 513495 and Devicekit-disks
by potat0
After many months a problem detected in F11 regarding mounting of Audio CDs and raised as bug 513495, was finally fixed in Devicekit-disks-004-5. On Rawhide we are up to Devicekit-disks-008-1 and the problem still exists as the fix has not so far been ported to Rawhide I guess. I would hope that the fix will make it over prior to F12 release otherwise a lot of people are going to get very upset when they find out that a problem raised 4 months ago has suddenly reappeared when they upgrade to F12. Playing Audio CDs on a computer is a pretty fundamental operation these days and it should be expected under any operating system

Firefox 3.5.4 Installation on Fedora 11 Missing ICON

I updated my Fedora 11 System via yumex and it ran
successfully installing, among other things, Firefox 3.5.4.
My problem is that the Firefox Icon is nowhere to be
found in the KDE Application Launcher. Starting firefox
from a command line works fine but I would like to recreate
the Icon. Not sure who would own this type of problem.
