of yum, nfs and starting from scratch

as much as i'm not keen on putting any more time into testing f11
alpha, i figure that, since my two laptops are out and still plugged
in, i can start both of them from scratch and i'll take suggestions as
to *exactly* what operations i should do, and in what order, and i'll
record the results for my posterior. posterity. i meant posterity.
both laptops are gateway MX7120, with 64-bit AMD mobile athlon
processors, 512M onboard RAM plus another 512M on an expansion card.
i'll install 32-bit alpha in one and 64-bit in the other, and try to
duplicate my efforts on both systems to see if the installed arch
makes a difference as to when things explode into flame.
at the moment, i'm letting them both crank thru a memory test to
verify that it's not a memory issue. once i'm happy with that, i'll
do very much the same install as i've been doing all week -- it ends
up being somewhere between 1400 and 1500 packages total. once that's
done and the systems are rebooted, i'll take suggestions as to
predicsely what to test.
beyond the package selection, i'm going to go with the default
selections during the install process, so i'm not trying to do
anything fancy.

Rawhide mixer can't select CD in on ALC883

gnome keyring asks for password @startup

Dear fellow testers,
I have a Toshiba laptop tracking rawhide and I have the wireless working beautifully(*knocks on wood*), however everytime I start the machine I get a prompt to enter the password by gnome-keyring or whatever it is called. If I don't enter the password, I can't connect to the wireless network(Network is encrypted and not open). Is there a way to tell it not to ask for it again and login automatically without prompting for the password?
Thank you in advance for your help.
BTW, in pre Fedora 7 whiles't installing a Test release I had used madwifi and the network was open back then, now it is encrypted and thankfully the Network adminstrator has successfully configured the machine for me. The ath5k/ath9k driver services the laptop and all is well, just I don't want to type the password each time.

Awesome Boot Display

I was pleasantly surprised to see the solar theme boot display
after installing Rawhide on an ECS motherboard with
on board display. The Linux Desktop is showing signs of life.
The folks who would most appreciate this eye candy are mostly
NOT using wimp motherboard graphics.
When might we see this boot display with Nvidia cards?

fedora 11 alpha nfs not listening on udp port 2049?

for the first time, i'm trying to boot an embedded system via NFS
mounting its root fs from my f11 alpha system, and the attempt to
mount that root fs simply hangs. invoking tcpdump shows continuous
diagnostics claiming that, on the server side, "udp port nfs
unreachable."
sure enough, even though "service nfs start" worked fine, running
"netstat -an" shows nothing listening on port 2049 on the server.
however, "ps -ef" shows multiple [nfsd] processes (threads?) running.
that would explain it if nothing is listening on port 2049. on
another system here that acts very nicely as an NFS server (running
RHEL4), if i run "netstat -an", i can see both a UDP and TCP listener
on that port, plus numerous established connections from clients
mounting.
but on f11 alpha ... nothing. where went port 2049?

today's F10 updates, PackageKit showing double

Today's updates totaled 11 on my laptop, but PackageKit wanted to say I
had 12. system-config-date is listed twice. I can't seem to find an open
bug on this, and I have screenshot proof if anyone doubts it.
Yes, I tried hitting "Refresh" but it still shows that package twice.
All the other packages are listed once. "yum check-update" only shows 11
updates and system-config-date is listed once.
Anyone else seeing this?

Beware today's updates - selinux is changing home user contexts

I have just updated some f10 boxes a few minutes ago. On logging on again
after rebooting to the new kernel this evening, the main user directories
have had their contexts changed to usr_t so I presume some kind of
relabelling has been done - but not correctly! After restorecon -vR
/home/user the contexts have mostly reverted to where they should be - I
initially noticed because ssh suddenly started demanding a passphrase when
it should not need one - and then I noted avc denials.....
I hope not too many users are going to have their home directories messed up
as a result! The relevant update is
selinux-policy-targeted-3.5.13-46.fc10.noarch.rpm
This is not good - especially for a stable release!

QA review for feature pages - Help get new features into Fedora!

Hi folks,
The feature freeze is coming soon[1], and that means we need to check to
make sure all the new ans exciting features coming in F11 are
"testable".
Here's a list of all the F11-approved features that haven't been
reviewed yet:

The wiki pages should tell you a bit more, but basically, we need to
make sure that each feature has two major things:
1) Scope
The Scope section is supposed to list the *complete* set of changes to
be made, features to be added, etc. Basically: it needs to tell you
what's going to change - what packages, what config files, and so on.
If the Scope section is vague, incomplete or missing, add this to the
bottom of the Feature page:
[[Category:Features with incomplete scope]]
And add a comment on the 'discussion' page. Be sure to put "--~~~~" at
the end of your comment - this will add a signature for you.
2) How To Test
This part should tell you how to check everything listed in the Scope
section. It should have a complete list of detailed instructions that
you (or I or anyone on fedora-test-list) can follow to test the feature.
If you can't follow the directions in the How To Test section to confirm
whether or not the Feature is working, add this to the bottom of the
Feature page:
[[Category:Features with incomplete test plans]]
And add a comment on the discussion page, as mentioned above.
If both these sections are complete and accurate and useful, add:
[[Category:QA approved feature pages]]
to the bottom of the page.
This information will be used to decide which features are ready for F11
and which ones aren't. If there's a feature you're keen to see in F11,
you can help - go review its feature page!
If the scope or test plan are incomplete, *please* ask the feature owner
what they're changing and how you can test it. You can help them write
those sections, which helps everyone else test *and* helps FESCo decide
whether to keep the feature or not. Everyone's a winner!
